Hi,

My Son is just 3.5 years old & has completed his Nursery. My wife is insisting we enroll him in a Phonics Learning program however I believe he is too young for this & secondly, I fail to understand the importance for it. I mean - Why should be \" Phonics\" be important? Won' t school teach children how to build / pronounce / develop words from alphabets??

You & Me as a Parent never did that, does tht mean we were never able to pronounce / build word from alphabets etc etc?

Don' t know from where, but I' ve started to build a feeling that all these are new forms of earning.

On the other hand, even if we DON' T enroll in this, we are given an feeling from others, that \" your child is lagging behind since you didn' t enroll him XYZ, so forth & so on...\"

Can you parents share your experience on the same (mainly who have enrolled their child in this program & also who have skipped it)

Might be he will have some of his friedns in school who have joined and might be insisting him as well. you can check the detail information first. Ojas replied. Hi Sam, this can be the right age to send your child for Phonics learning as this is the time when kids easily grasp things. The various ways they are been taught to learn words are truly innovative. Ashna replied. There is no harm in saying what your wife is suggesting. Both of you should talk about it and see what you think is better for your kid. There is no harm in enrolling your kids for extra things as nothing will be a waste. Riya replied. I understand your concern but even if it not mandatory that your child should join that school what is the harm if he does? I think this would be the correct age for a child to learn phonics because they will learn the exact english and mostly pronunciation is very important so that there will not be any problem while speaking. No Name replied. Hello Sam,
I think at this age learning phonics might be very advance stage. According to me you teach your kid mother language because in these days children are coming to know speaking in western languages is fashion but our mother tongue is most important. JP replied. Hello Sam,
I think it might be not be the correct age for phonics because at this age children will start speaking. So let them grow according to their age and later you make them learn evrything. Jj replied. Hello Sam,
I think children will learn anything form basics. But this might be very hard for them to learn. For kids it can be learnt at the age of six or seven because they are kids and it is starting for them. rj replied. hi sam you just asked the very querry which i have had since long time. thank you ravina singh replied. Hi Sam! I too subscribe to your thought. But phonics can be learnt from the age of 3. I guess this is similar to acitivating the right side of the brain and methodologies that surround it. I for one dont go in for these while my sister and her hubby are all for it and vouch by it. You could test the program on a trial run and see if it is beneifical if it is, continue with it for your kid' s sake. Else dont. This way you would have atleast tried and your wife ll also be satisfied.
