Once I was casually talking to school children. I observed that most children could not come up with answers to questions about what made them feel angry, sad , happy or ecstatic. This made me feel that today’s children were not in the habit of introspecting or processing their thoughts.

Steps for inculcating introspection in children:

1: Sharing the day: Parents can aid this literal review of everyday happenings by asking children to narrate experiences.

2: Asking the right questions: Parents should ask the right question at the right time.

3: Helping to find essence and preparing for the next day. The last step that parents can teach is to help the child learn from each day’s experiences. It will help the child to learn from past mistakes.

Subject:  Schools can help children communicate better

This is my first post here. New parents like me don' t really know much about being parents, and it' s great to have a support system that helps you learn. I' ve found this website quite useful, and I want to just say thanks.

I saw this post about how children don' t really communicate well, and it' s something a lot of us can relate to. But speaking from my own experience, I can say that the school can play a major role in correcting this. My son goes to Pupil Tree day care in Bangalore where they insist on frequent parent-teacher meetings. In these meetings they' d tell me not only how my son was doing in class, but also how he interacted with other children and the adults, the things he liked to do and the things he didn' t. I found that getting to know about his activities at school really helped me. The school also encourages all parents to ask children to tell them what happened in school - exactly what the editor has said!
