Hi
We have two biological children.Like to adopt one.But have heard if you have two kids then u can only become guadian.Whatz the difference of being a guadian and adopting a child?Is it same as sponsoring? What are the limitations?
Please clear my doubts.

Well I think it depend on the gender of your kids if both are of one gender then you can legally adopt a child of another. But if you have one of each... I really think you should speak to an adoption lawyer.
What being Guardian means just that that in the eyes of the law you are not the parents, but guardians to a ward of the state.
The limitations are the legal. The adopted child will not have the same rights to your estate and property as a legally adopted child or your biological children. But you can counter it by making a will. But like I said you should talk to a lawyer.
Christians and muslims and people of religions other than Hindus and Foriegners can only adopt as guardians. This is because there is no uniform Aoption law in this country. We only have a hindu adoption act. Which means it is upto the presiding judge to interpret the act ( hence the need for a good lawyer and adoption agency). I case of a uniform law- once you follow the letter of the law, there should be nothing preventing you from adopting a child. But that is not so in this country.
We as adoptive parents should really fight for a law.
