Hi,
My daughter is 6 weeks old (premature baby ), she regurgitates milk after every other feed, If I put her down in bed she always throws up, so I keep her in my arms only most of the time (90) so that her head is raised. Doc has suggested Bonnison drops from Himalaya (5 drops 8 hourly for imp digestion),has any one tried this?
Also she takes feed after every 1-1.5 to 2hrs day and night, is this time gap normal?

Padmaja replied. Hi Nandini,
An year back, I was exactly in ur situation. On 14th, my daughter completed one year. even she was a pre term baby, born in 35th week and had very bad reflux. She wud throw up milk inspite of holding her in arms for most of the time. She wudnt burp for how much ever time we held her upright. It was demanding and tiring at that time, but trust me it would vanish with time. by 3/4 months, reflux wud come down. By 8 month, my baby' s reflux got settled. So till then u can take some measures to help baby and urself too.
1. Keep checking baby' s weight regularly. At ur babies age, they r supposed to put on 20/30 grams per day. Dont be panic by checking every other day, but for abt 15 days, get her weight checked regualrly until 3 months age. If the weight gain is proper, then absolutely nothing to worry.
2. Keep giving small frequent feeds. Being first time mother, I did a mistake of feeding more quantity of milk. my daughter was on lactogen. so i followed the feeding quantites mentioned on the lactogen bottle. Later my doc told that none of the babies can drink the quantity of milk mentioned in those charts for their age. Since i gave more than what she can take, it had aggrevated her reflux problem.
3.Burp well, and keep an inclination of 45 degrees for resting her head. Hold her upright for 30 / 45 min after giving feed. I know its very tiring, but take help of family. try to divide the duty so that u get enuf rest.
4. I tried Bonnison too, but it didnt help my baby much. My doc suggested Aristozyme digestive drops for digestion and Colic aid when the gas problem is more. Check with ur doc and keep one or two such medicines whih u can use when in need. These r very mild medicines, so u can give. Better to check with ur doc, since she is still under 6 months.
Trust me this is a problem with most of the babies, we just need to know the correct information. Being a first time mommy, i got really panic, it took a toll on my breast feed also. Later i had to shift to formula. Now i regret that, but cant help. So be cool and take proper measures.
All the best

Tabassum replied. Also forgot to mention the feeding pattern is perfectly fine...especially for babies with reflux problem u need to feed her less in quantity but at frequent intervals so that they dont throw up as much. If she is gaining weight my doctor said no need to worry at all ...she is gettin her share of nutrients.
Tabassum replied. Hi Nandini,
I totally identify with ur problem. My baby had very bad reflux problem when she was of that age..which however reduced and vanished by the time she reached 3 months. I can understand it is difficult to burp her coz even aft lot of attempts Tisha wud not burp and hence the gush of milk wud come out thru her nose when we lay her down. Scary but nothing to worry about. Yes incline your baby while sleeping it helps. I used our pillows to to incline her in such a way that 3/4th of her body was on the pillow just for about 30 mints or so. Bonnison is good i am using for my daughter now , that point of time i was in US and dint find it so gave her gripe water which also worked for her. Just to mention before ending that my baby was premature by a month. This stage will go very quickly trust me.
kriya replied. Dear Nandini,
I read your problem, You can always try to rub or pat babys back after every time she takes feed and do that till she burps, dont lay her flat on bed always use a pillow, in case u have to lay her down. She has a gud appetite. thats nothing to worry, if she is doing well otherwise then there is nothing as such to worry about.
Each baby is different and so are their problems, we can only share our experiences, you are the one in situation and have to take call, try this if this does not work then please do what your doc says. Himalaya is an ayurvedic brand, or yaa you can also try gripe water. Gud luck dear.
