Hi Namitha,

Dont worry, it might be uncomfortable, but not painful. As vini said, its for Group B strep test and for dilation/baby position checking.

Vini, IF the test is negative, no need to worry all is good. and even if the test is positive, they will give antibiotic thro your IV during labour, so that the baby wouldnt get infected with the bacteria. Either way no need to worry.

take care,
Jichi

Namita,

Don' t worry... The internal exam is just like a pelvic exam to see if the cervix has dilated but they will insert more than 2 fingers inside... They will have the gel on their hand, so dont worry, it will just be uncomfortable not painful... The swab thing is the Group B Strep Test where they check if you have the Group B bacteria which could affect the baby during delivery... You can run a search on google about the Group B Strep test to find out more... In that, they only insert a swab(like big ear buds) inside and take a swab of your vagina and rectum... I have it during my Thursday appt... Hope it goes well for me too... WIll keep you posted.. Just be positive ok... All will go well... When you hold your baby in your arms, you will feel like in heaven and forget all of these pains...

Love to the little one... Take care

Love,
Vini

Internal examination, o have had couple of times thru out my delivery, infact last one was just last wednesday. It hurts a bit but also makes me very uncomfortable. I jsut hate going thru it, however it is very important during last weeks as it helps dr. determine the status of pregnancy ..... it will help locate if baby' s head has engaged or if the cervix has dialated.
Just make sure u relax ur muscles as much as possible when the dr. does it, so that it will be less painful.
All the best.
