Nurseries and Schools:Right Age for Nursery
2012-12-06
Name: Naveen

We are in dilemma regarding admission for our kid. He is November 2010 Born. That means he will be 2.5 by 1st June 2013. Most of schools
have cut off of 2Y 10 Months for Nursery and some like DPS have 3+. However we also came across couple of schols who admit for Nursery at 2.5. Also, the schools like Euro Kids and Times Kid have prescribed 1.5-2.5 as pre-school and 2.5-3.5 as Nursery. We didnt want to burden the kid with formal class room at 2.5 and wanted to put him in play group. At the same time we were also wondering why established pre-schools take nursery at 2.5 ? If we put him in play group, he will be 6.5 when he starts class-1 and 5.5 if he starts nursery straighaway. We have 2 options now.
1. Put him Play Group in June 2013 onwards (full year). Nursery from June 2014 onwards.
2. Put him Nursery in June 2013 onwards. In this case we can send him to some play school now for around 5 months , if seats are available)

Please give your opinions.

Thanks

Hi Naveen, i would say check for schools which take kids in the age of 3 or 3.5 as 2.5 will be quite early to enroll your child and he will throw tantrums and even cry to go to the school which will be problematic for you.

See if the schools have prescribed that age for their admission then there might be some reason behind it and i don't think you will be burdening your child with nursery as nursery is not much about studies and more about activities.

Play group might not seem of a big deal but i think it is important too as he kid learns a lot of important things there too. But i think it is appropriate for a kid to start his schooling that is his KG when he is 4 years old.

Hello Naveen,
So in these days the right age for kid to join the school is more than three because people want their kids to very smart and need to be unique among all the persons so that it will be some great feel to them.

Hello Naveen,
Joining in a school at this age is not important it is the matter of just few months gap but he will pick up to is class mates if you give support and help him while studying.let him enjoy his child hood life and any how he needs to study only.

Hi, I feel that you can join your kid to nursery in June. Schools like Little Einsteins Preschool, they have various branches and they will be able to recognize the child' s individual talents and needs, you don' t have to stress about his daily lessons, since these schools teach the child in a innovative way.

Hi Naveen,

I understand your dilemma. My daughter started attending preschool at Eurokids when she was 2 years old. Me and my hubby are really happy with our decision. My daughter could not stay without me earlier but now she made new friends and she really likes her teachers at Eurokids. So i think it is big advantage to send your child to preschool at early age. There is so much to learn you see. And it is good only that our kids will learn at early age. Wish you all the best for your decision.

I feel it is better to be elder in class then to be the youngest. It is just initial hitch that we all have that our child is running late. Over a period it will be good for child... Besides a long term advantage...i see is that...in admission to medical / engineering exams...if the marks of 2 students are tied up in all ways...as per rule they select the elder child...

Hi Navin,

Regarding your query, I think it' s always better to provide a head-start to our kids. At this early stage, there is no real pressure applied over kids in PlayGroup' s/Nurseries. But that said, the approach might differ from PG to PG.
In the better PG' s, the focus in on developmental activities, bringing a routine in life, sharing, potty-training, learning to play with other kids et al.
I have researched numerous playgroups and found only 1 PG (Podar Jumbo Kids) wherein they have a concept of ' little school' in which they accept kids who can walk. My daughter is 14 months and we have put her in the little school. By God' s grace she is already beginning to get adjusted.

My advice would be to put her in a PG now and enrol her for Nursery in June 2013.

Cheers,
Atul

Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns. Language development, motor skills, and social-emotional growth are equally important during these years.
