Name: Rama Hi Reva, You said you had one level 2. That is why I am asking you specifically..

I thought that whatever u/s we have between 16-24 weeks is the level 2.. but I think I am wrong..

Can someone please tell me what is level 2..?

I may have one next week..

Rama, also since your cervix measures a little smaller than normal they might perform more ultrasounds (not just ht three)over the course of your pregnancy to keep a check on its length.
Good luck with your U/S.
Vindhya, it must have been a torture for you to have gone through the Down's scare. Glad to hear that everything turned out just fine.

I was devasted from AFP test

Hi Rama,

You cannot imagine how devasted I was when the test came back positive for Down's. I used to cry all the time. Finally, I left it to God and decided to go for the dreaded Amnio test. I was on cloud nine when the genetic counselor called to say that the baby was chromosomal defect free. It was the happiest day of my life.

I just hope your cervix measurement come out normal (I did read your other posting). So, enjoy seeing the baby and hearing his/her heartbeat. Thats the greatest feeling.

That must have been scary for you (AFP +ve and amnio..!!) Good that it turned out to be fine..

we are not planning on knowing the gender.. we want a surprise.. it was a tough decision :-) but so far we are not tempted..

Hi Rama,

I feel I forgot to mention so many things. The scanning process takes about 30-40 minutes and they take about 40 images. Get them home and keep us posted. Anyway, you'll know more when you have the test yourself.

I had one at 20 weeks as my AFP test had come positive for Down's. I finally had Amniocentesis done and everything was normal, thats a different story.

Are you planning to find out the gender or is it going to be a surprise?

Level II or Anatomy scan

As far as my knowledge goes, a level II U/S is also known as an anatomy scan. They measure the baby's organs in detail, your cervix size, etc.,. They check if the heart has four chambers, spinal-cord length, the femur bone length, hands, legs, etc., The femur bone length is used to check for Down's syndrome.

Level I is not so detailed, its probably used to estimate your due date, if done in first trimester.

I am still looking for good web-sites that have this information, haven't found any. I'll post them incase I find any.

level 2 U/S

Hey Rama, the one they do just before they send you for the AFP test (16-21 weeks) is the is the level 2 U/S as far as I know. Level 3, I assume is when they do it again in around the 30 the week to check how the baby is positioned..
