Hi All,

I am a new member. Recently came to know about this site. Have gone through couple of discussions. Some were sounding like my problems only. And that has encouraged me in putting my problems also here. Please share ur views.

1) My daughter is going to be 11 months by next week. Till 5months her weight gain was fine and she was totally on BM and topmilk. I started solid for her by 6th month. 6th month my milk was comming very less and then my problem started. I had hard time feeding her top milk while sleeping as she was used to my milk during sleep time. By ending of 6th month my milk stopped and my daughter stopped taking top milk(through bottle) during sleep. So I had to wake her up and either bottle feed or spoon feed her according to her wish.

2) She started vommiting when I used to spoon feed. It was not every time but sometime. This was summer time and some ppl told me that ceaser babies feel more hot and may be thats why. gradually when I started solid/juice except cerelac she used to vomit sometimes and sometimes not. This vommiting period stopped last month. but this month again she started vommiting. Its not that I forced her and she does. I divert her attention through toys.

3) Her weight was 6.8kgs by 5months by now almost 11months and her weight is 7.5kgs. I was working and I stopped working so that I can take care of my daughter but its so depressing when I see my efforts are not working (may be I am not doing right)

4) I had put some bad habbits for her like... till now I just gave her khichdi(grinded one), cerelac and sometime fruit juice with fear of vomit. she got habit of this kind of texture. now when I try to give khichdi without grinding then she vomits out.

5) She doesnot show sign of not giving anymore. actually she refuse food from begining and I divert her attension through toys. so when to stop I donot know. If suppose today I feed 4 spoon cerelac. tomorrow after feeding 3 spoon she vomits out. It always a tension that which spoon she will vomit out I donot know.

6) I was using lectogen for feeding. I stopped lectogen and started dairy milk for her since then she is passing 4-5 times stool in a day.

7) Her general schedule now is...

8am-8.40am - milk(6-7oz)

9.40am-10.15am - veggie(2tsps) [1 month back she used to take cerelac but ppl told me to give natural stuff instead of cerelac and she is not taking much of veggie]

10.45am-11am[apple juice-2oz sometimes takes sometimes vomit out]

11-12.30pm nap

12.30pm-1.10pm milk(5-6oz)

2.10pm-2.45pm khichadi grinded one/cerelac 4scoop

3-5pm nap

5-5.45pm milk(5-6oz)

7-8pm khichadi grinded one/cerelac 4scoop

9.30pm sleep

4am- milk(3oz-5oz)

7) I feel her sleep time is increased since last 2months. She was hospitalize before 2 months due to seveare loose motion. I have increased her milk since last 1 month due to continuous my ped' s advice to increase milk. but due to this she reduced her solid. she used to take 9pm-10pm milk/solid part that she stopped since last 1.5month due to her sleep.

8) I am seeing that since last 20days she lost completely interest in food. Its very hard time for me to feed her. This might be due to increase in milk but my ped says she need to increase milk.

9) She is on lower side of her development. she started sitting after 9months when we make her sit. and after 10months she started sitting from sleeping possition on her own.

Please advice and share ur suggestions. Thanks in advance.

hi dimple,
in my opinion becoz of reglar vomitting, your baby has developed a negative impression about food.
I think you should take a second opinion from a different pedriatic reg :
1) the milk intake of your baby (what qty of milk per day is sufficient to fulfill the calcium intake),
2) how much gap should be kept in between 2 feeds - if the baby does not eat solid, should that feed be supplemented with milk
3)does she needs to be given any tonic as nutritional supplement

reg 3rd point - when my son was refusing solid food and was on mostly milk diet, my son' s pedratic prescribed iron drops for 3months saying milk does not contain iron and also that this would increase his appetite as well.

My son is 2 yrs now. Till almost 1.5 yrs I had to feed him every two hrs as he would not eat sufficient qty in one go - some due to habit, some becoz of teething.
At breakfast/lunch/dinner time, try to make your girl sit with u at the table and let her see what u are eating. In all probability, her would ask for someting - not for eating but to spill around or play with. Let her do this as far as u can tolerate (u can give her a plate and a bowl of curd)- while she is busy, see if she will eat something.

reg khichadi - cook it for some time so that when you open and mix it, it bocomes as good as grinded. If u are adding vegetables to it, make sure they are either grated or chopped finely.
For my son -instead of spoon feeding, I used to make him drink khichadi from bowl (khichadi needs to be slightly watery in consistancy) - see if your baby enjoys it that way.
Have u tried to give her vege soup - just boil(pressure cook) some veg in enough water, drain it and add salt to the vege water. Boiled vege can be used for making stuffed parantha or pav bhaji.
Have u tried some milk shakes - roohafja in milk can be an option... suji ki kheer...suji ka halwa/ atta ka halwa... you can even try aloo parantha - not sure if your daughter has started teething, even if not, every bite u give her, mash it well with hand so that it just melts in her mouth without the effort of chewing.

some of the things i wrote above have worked for me, some have not. So its just trial and error.

all the best.

Hi Dimple,

My name is Jaya and i have a son 19 months old now. He was a cesarian born and bw was 2.1 kg. Now his weight is 10 kg.
He was the same like ur kid. He was very fine till he was breast fed and started vomitting once i started bottle milk and solids. The Problem is not with the kids its with us who has not having any experience handling babies. Actually I learnt now how to cope up with babies now. The babies develop a taste for milk and if u breastfeed completely for 6 months and give them bottle milk suddenly they don´ t like it and stops taking milk. Also their stomach gets irritated because of poor eating and gastro problems starts. This is a cause for vomitting.

My son does not like cerelac. But the doctor told me to give Lactogen and cerelac after BF stopped. So i gave him and he does not like it.He used to take very less Quantity only and vomits sometimes since he does not like the taste.
Vomitting is because of indigestion, stomach upset or because of dislike of food.

First we need to identify the food or taste he likes. My son likes bland food without any spices and home made(no cerelac).
U can also try the same. Avoid cerelac and try to give rice kanji mixed with milk or Idli mixed with milk.
We used to give him Idli in the morning. Half Idly with sambar(no spice) completely grinded and half idli mixed with milk and grinded.

Still he eats only grided food only and he chokes and vomits if i give him mashed or even nicely cooked food.I don´ t know what to do for that but i wanted him to stop vomitting and this helped. Also we use to show him cartoon films,Ads from Tv to distract him while eating. Otherwise he won´ t eat full.He may eat half and run from me.

He does not like lactogen so from 12 months we started giving nandini milk(Blue Packet Fat removed) to him. Also I use the same milk in his foods also since his milk intake is very less.

I had consulted so many pediatricians regarding this.Nothing helped. They simply say it might be GERD but no treatment available. We are giving him vitamin supplements from 3 months onwards(zincovit/vitazyme).We were giving iron drops but we stopped it recently because he is not taking that. Also dr prescribed calcium supplements but he does not like it so we are not giving.

Some of the things i observed with my kid

If i give 2 spoons more also he vomits. So i should be very careful about all the feeds. This is because we are giving him food after they say no also.so after some time they stop saying no. So i give him food 2 to 3 hrs once and always in measured quantity. Also dinner should be very early.Should be completed before 8:30 p.m and sleep at 9:30.Atleast one hr he should be up and running so that he won´ t vomit at night.

Also i give him all bland food home made like Rice with dal and veg,Idli with sambar, banana, apple shakes,Dalia with veg and dal.Simple dishes.

Also i noticed when he was around 9 month old he was vomitting whenever i gave him wheat products or Rava. He was able to have dalia only around 15 months.

My biggest problem now is improving his weight and make him chew food so that he can eat normal food. But no ideas.
Dr says he is very active and had his mile stones on time.so compared to his birthweight he says my son is fine with his weight too.But i feel he is very skinny compared to other kids.

Anybody has ideas please provide ur suggestions.

All the Best...for ur kid.

So my sister’s child is a very fussy eater. She generally makes veggie cheese rolls or sandwiches to get her to eat her vegetables. She tries to use colourful and pretty veggies to get her to eat.
