Hi I am single parent for my two sons ( 11 & 8). we three stay in Hyderabad.

it hurts to hear my son tell his hindi exercise \" hamara Parivar\" ...he starts with Meri ma bangalore mein rehthi hain...mere pitha etc \"
He is 7 -8 ...and that is his first thought about his family. I get scared bringing them up

I completely understand what you are going thru and possibly how your son feels also. My daughter is 3 and only goes to pre KG but lol still lands up with silly homework of similar nature....

When i got this situation i looked at it this way - the school is trying to make the child aware of her surroundings family etc. so in keeping with the objective i created a very fun story around actual facts but made it all cute.... to give you an example in one task i had to put a kind of a family tree with pics , that was easy ....and then there' s one where the pic of the whole family had to go in . My husband has never met my daughter since she was 3 months old so I asked myself who her family was and then proceeded to put a B day pic with all our really close friends and family ! Trust me I felt quiet happy after that

In addition i made sure i probed and got what she really felt about such things as and when they come up - not in a leading way or feeding her ideas but impartially and in a fun way . Then addressed it all again in a light vein. You will have to think of ways around these roadblocks. Send me your latest homework challenge and I' ll try !

Bless u

Dear Reshma,
I can understand what you are going through. This matter is very sensitive and should be handled carefully as it may affect your child's development. I feel that you must definitely take the help of a counselor. ... - Kanchi [View Message]
