Due Date Club February 2008:Re-establishing breast milk after hospitalization
2008-03-03
Name: Chicagomommy

Dear All,

I delivered my baby boby last week (vaginal delivery) and he was in the special nursery owing to his faster breathing patterns. He came home after 5 days when I used to pump my milk (though my supply was low) and they supplemented him with formula during his hospital stay. Afetr I came home, I had to be hospitalized for 3 days owing to my illness where I was told I shouldn' t offer my breast milk to my baby as I was on antibiotics. So I used the manual pump to drain my milk. Now that I am back home and tried pumping using the hospital grade electric pump (which I used earlier) and I am getting nil or hardly 10 ml of milk.

Previously I used to get about 3 ounces per session and my baby had latching problems. Hence I used to brestfeed as well as pump for his feedings.

Could anyone tell me is there a way to re-establish breast milk after this?

Thanks in advance.
