Hi,

Yes - U should take only rice flour.Don't boil the veggies- grate them finely.Cut onions and brocolli finely. But remember to cook both the sides of dosa - cook dosa on medium flame.U can sprinkle some oil on top before turning the dosa to the other side.Yes - all the vegetables needs to go into the batter.Pour little batter on pan and spread it quickly - u may not get a good shape - take small dosas - don't make it too thick too- gets cooked well and its faster too.

Hi Kavitha,

So, you just take Rice flour and nothing else like Urad dal or anyother thing.

Do you boil all the vegetables first ?

All these vegetables needs to go into batter ?

Hi DK , Minu,

I just read all your messages. There was some prob with internet connection - so couldn't check messages for nealy a week !
Here it goes :
I normally take 2 cups of rice flour.Mix Grated carrots (2or 1), grated cabbage (small piece )or finely cut , finely cut coriander leaves (small bunch),finely cut onions (small or medium size -1),salad cucumber (1 or half ),few brocolli flowerettes (finely cut ).Add salt and finely cut green chillies for taste.Mix the batter properly.U can either take thick dosas or little thin.Sprinkle some oil on top and turn to the other side and cook again.Make sure u cook both the sides properly otherwise dosa may not taste good.U can have it with chutney or without it.We both eat it without chutney.
By the way , Brocolli is good in pregnancy. Why don't u try brocolli sprouts ? Buy organic brocolli sprouts available in supermarkets.Even i read in some websites that it is not good.Sometimes its really confusing .... every website contradicts with another website.Best thing to follow is not to have too much of anything.

Hi Minu,

Welcome to this board !Where do u live ?
YES ! - we are all in the same boat ...have same complaints and concerns!

Even am a vegetarian. But i take eggs. You are right - sprout beans, moong etc are really good.Earlier i used to like Dhals very much.I just hate them now.I make dhal dosas now.Our staple diet is rice and we used to have chapathis regularly. Now i dislike both of them.I feel very heavy after eating chapathi - i still eat them once every alternate day.If u guys are having chapathis , prepare them using whole wheat flour. Its really good.Soya is very rich in protein , calcium and iron - try adding handful of soya flour to your chapathi - i tried it.Chapathi tastes same.

Another alternative i found is dosa.I make dosa out of rice flour - i mix grated veggies like carrots, salad cucumber, cabbage, brocolli, coriander leaves, onion etc in the batter.

U can have veggie soups aswell.Prepare them at home. What u get in supermarket contains lot of sodium and sometimes preservatives aswell.U can cook veggies in pressure cooker.Keep the water aside. Grind the veggies in blender.Later on add the water kept aside to the ground veggie paste.Boil it.U can give seasoning with little jeera in half tsp oil.Add salt and pepper for taste.i use carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, beans , beetroots in soup - whichever is available.

Hope this helps.Do let me know if u all have any other recipes which i can try out.

Hi Kavitha,
I live in Toronto. ... It's so amazing that even I used to like dals, but now I don't like them atall. Infact, it's the time we should be eating more of them!! and also about roti, same thing. I feel very heavy and gastic when I eat it, so I avoid eating it daily. Do you guys prepare roti of javar, bajari or rice? I like them, Back home, my mom used to prepare them a lot. I think that should be a good altenative. I prepare them sometimes. ... Does anybody know whather Brocoli is good for pregnancy? I was sure that it's a good source of iron and probably even Vitamin A, but I read on some Indian site that it's not good. .......I don't know the reason. Otherwise, I used to make stir fried brocoli. If you find anything about it, let's everybody know. But I make stir fried String beans and couliflower.
How do you make dosa out of rice flour? PL. post.
Thanks,
Minu.

Hi,

I tried the following recipy and it is good and I can eat it well.

Make a dough of whole wheat flour by adding cooked spinach puree to it. Put it for 1 hour or so. In another pan prepare vegetable like brocoli, cabbage, carrot, potatoes, grean peas and whatever you like. Add required masalas to it. Add tomato puree to make it paste consistancy. (not too much liquid)

Now roll 3 chapatis of the dough. boil water adding one table spoon of oil. put chapatis one by one and cook for 2-3 mins. Take them out. Grease one oven plate, put first chapati, pour 1/3rd of puree, put another chapati over it and pour 1/3rd of puree and on top put 3rd chapati and pour rest of puree on it. Sprinkle some cheese on it. Put it in oven at 250 C for 20-25 mins.

Hope you people will like this recipy.

Hi,

I am also vegetarian. And I too have thoughts sometimes that whether I am taking enough nutritions for my kid or not.

Why donot we do something. Place some recepies on this site which you might have tried and is good for pregnant women. What do you say about this idea ?

This is because I donot have any fun to eat regular things, so this might be a good idea to try new recepies and eat them.

We all are sailing the same boat - I'm also a vegetarian and i keep wondering if im taking proper intake - and i keep surfing the preg. sites or share the info like this so that our experiences might be of some use to the others. I'm also not a food lover but i have changed my priority towards my baby and i take often/regular intervals but smaller meals. Also try to take more boiled vegetables and fruits instaed of taking heavy meals.

Yes i think radhika is rite. Water does solve most problems. Apart from that if you are a poor water drinker, in india we get syrup called Dygiene or Gelusil
that i think solves most problems of heartburn (they are antacids). Aarti used these to good effect when ever shes had a problem.

Subject:  Burning Sensation

Hi DK,
I also had the same problem initially for a couple of weeks and i was told to have lots & lots of water. I followed it - and it gone now. I dont have burning sensation now but i have a feeling of nausea. Try this out because having water solves most of these burning, bloating issues.
