Hi All,

I delivered baby boy on 5th october and mine was a c-section. first 2 days i was forced to give formula due to my pain.

after that my baby dint latch properly ... 7 days i was giving formula.. when i consulted lactation consultant she suggested to pump and give the milk.. i am trying that and not getting enuf flow of milk..

its been more than 16 days ... though my baby tries to latch in the morning for 2 - 3 times night he is very reluctant and the flow is very less..

can anyone suggest me to over come this problem..

i am very depressed for not giving my baby healthy breast milk and going for formula...

hope to get lota suggestions soon..

thanks in advance
Suki

Hi Suki
If ur baby is cranky in the morning, check whats bothering him. too much strong flow like spraying makes some baby very cranky.you can pump 1-2 ounce b4 latching him on.

Its normal to have less flow in the evening with everybody. Then again everyday is not same.
Good option is that feed your baby as many times he want after 6 in the evening. They do bunch feeding in the evening....and mother feels that milk is less , normal.

One more option for you is pump out the milk as soon your baby finishes a feed. Store it. In the night when you feel that he is going hungry after your feed give him the stored milk in a bottle.

Do not do household work like cooking cleaning. No heavy work. Deligate messaging and changing diapers to somebody.
Cuddle with baby, rest a lot on bed.
Feed as frequently as baby asks.let him keep sucking even if he doesnt drink. This will stimulate your breast to produce prolactine which produces milk.
Rest a lot and take it easy, You will do well.
Take care

Rest a lot....

u r right u dont need milk to produce milk.its a myth reg diet rich in milk will produce milk. cows dont drink milk to give milk!! any way eat loads of otas cereal / toor daal with jeera n ghee tadka/ diet rich in proteins / calcium/fruits etc.basically a healthy diet. also breast feeding = feeding two people one urself who is already recuperating + ur lil one who is constantly growing. so basically eat loads loads n loads and healthy food. keep the baby suckling as much as poss... thie suckling action will produce milk. dont bother too much just relax. the more relaxed u r the more milk capacity. also please dont worry too much about formula milk./ it is not unhealthy!! it is good enough n lots of babies grow up on that too.and keep topping up with it when u require. enjoy motherhood... wish u the best

you also take diet which is rich in milk, so that milk production increases..take dalia, lots of milk, small amount of ghee(though doctors dont suggest in c-section, but i used to take in small amounts as it increases milk production),methi etc.hope it helps....

Hi mom,

thanks a lot .. will try to add up more diet to my intake.. i never thought after delivery i need to take so much of milk and fruits to increase the supply..

thought it was a process with the pregnancy and not the delivery...

as mine was a c-section initially for the 1 st wk i was low in my diet .. now i am changing my intake.. all for the sweet baby...

keep posting your suggestions
thanks

I too, had difficulty getting my baby to latch after he was born, but kept trying. I'm not sure where you're from but if you can get a nipple shield (it's a plastic piece that you put on your breast and which makes it easier for baby to latch), try that. I had to use it for about two weeks and then my baby was able to latch on to the breast. Giving your baby formula will not help your situation as the breast will only make milk that is used - if your baby is not drinking the supply will lessen until there is nothing. Continue pumping even if nothing seems to be coming out - it is better to just have the sensation of the pump as it will help your breasts to produce milk. Also, using the pump can be tricky sometimes - give it time, use it regularly and you should get some flow. Hope that helps!

Hi Rashpal,

Thanks a lot for ur reassurance.. now my baby is latching .. but becomes very cranky at early mornings .. he needs more milk.. as of now i dont have much milk supply and friends say it will improve in the 4th week.. i am trying my level best to stop the formula as it doesnt hold full nutrients as Breast milk..

i am in the USA.. i too got breast shield from my lactation consultant..2 days it worked and now i have stopped and trying on my own with out that.. coz lactation consultant said shield might reduce the milk supply and to increase it i need to pump atleast 8 times whether i get milk or not...

keep posting me all your suggestions.
thanks
