Nurseries and Schools:Is it too soon?

Name: Chetana Verma

Hi all
I have a 27 months old baby boy. We are a nuclear family...me, DH and my son living in Bangalore and basically from Delhi. I felt that my son was getting too much glued to me. Hence decided on putting him in a play school. He has been going to this play school for half an hour daily(no weekends) since the last 15 days. The problem is that he cries way too much when i leave him there. I was and am under the impression that all kids give a little problem but my son is totally unmanageable. He cries so much that by the end of half hour when i go to pick him up he looks so very drained and having swollen eyes. Now the problem is that even in the weekends if we guys go out and i make him wear jeans he continuously keeps on asking for my assurance that we are not going to school. Y' day(sunday night) when i was putting him to sleep, out of nowhere he started making faces as if he was abut to cry and asked me to hug him and be with him. It really breaks my heart to see him behave like this. Sometimes i wonder is it too soon for him?? I am a stay at home mom and the only reason i have put him in a play school is for him to socialize a bit and also because i am expecting my second baby in another 3 months. I don' t want to start his school then...it would be like too many changes for him.
Pls advice as to what i should do??

I also have a 24 month old baby.I too feel that you should check the way your son is treated in the day care..which day care is he going?..one of the things you need to do is wait outside the place and try to hear how much is he crying..(continuously or intermittently etc)and how are the caregivers responding to him.My sincere advice is do not let him continue there if he feels really bad about that place.

Hi Chetana,
Its not about being too early or too late. I am afraid your son is not comfortable with that playhome. Generally, kids find it difficult initially to leave home and go to a playschool. but if your kid is getting panicky so often, it only tells that you need to do a reality check of the playhome and the caretakers there.

Regards,
Pari

RE:What Toddlers Should Be Learning?
Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns. Language development, motor skills, and social-emotional growth are equally important during these years.
