Hi Rose...

Well, let me answer your question first. The doctor doing my ultrasound scan showed me my ovary in its post-ovulation stage. So that´ s how she knew I was ovulating.

Another thing is, I really think you should not think about the fact that 2 months have passed and yet nothing has materialised. You should focus on the next 4 months and try and predict your ovulation as best as you can.

For that you could use an ovulation test kit which you will get at your local pharmacy over the counter. I hope you have plotted a chart of your cycle for at least a year. With that information you can start using the ovulation test kit properly. As you say you have a 35 day cycle, accordingly you start using the test sticks from the day the index on the kit indicates. Typically there are 5 sticks in a pack which you have to use everyday once you start. I assume you know how to. In case you don´ t then the instructions on the pack are self-explanatory.

At the same time you should also use the BBT method so you can be more accurate of your ovulation. As Megs says, be regular in charting. Coz that will help. Any information you maintain of your body temp changes will be of a lot of use.

A random approach would be is to count from the 10th day after your period till the 25th day after your period. You can TTC every alternate day and in between of those days i.e. 17th & 18th day after your period, you can TTC everyday, if possible. A friend of mine actually told me to try day and night on these 2-3 days in between. Even though doctors say TTC every alternate day is enough to conceive.

Also, please don´ t think that you are not ovulating. Coz any doubts at this crucial time could prove to be a setback emotionally and physically. Please be positive. Try some yoga or meditation to divert your attention. Don´ t entertain any negative thoughts in your mind.

Remember, you have to focus on a healthy and happy you. Everyone wants to have pleasant memories of TTC even though sometimes nature doesn´ t really help the matter. I´ m sure you want to remember conception as something special with wonderful memories. So you should be happy at this stage.

I hope this helps. Please keep us updated. We would love to know your progress.

Take care & keep smiling! :)

Love n hugs,
Babysos

Hi Megs,

There were times when i dint record them at the same time and thats coz my scehdule dint allow me to. But im thinking of stopping the BBT charting now coz it makes me really anxious (to know whether i ovulated or not).

Sometimes I think a little oblivion doesnt do u any harm...wouldnt u agree??

Subject:  TTC

Hi Rose...

Well, I have been diagnosed with PCOS but the doc said I am ovulating. My cycle had been irregular when I hit puberty but then regularised when I turned 20, which was late, of course. But it didn´ t seem too serious a problem to my mom whose periods also regularised in her 20s as well. In any case, when my cycle did get irregular again (I think I was 22-23) she took me to a GYN. After doing a blood test to check hormone levels we found out my hormone ratio levels were 1.9:1 when actually it shouldn´ t be more than 2:1. Then again my cycle got regular so I didn´ t think too much of it. Then recently my cycle went haywire again so my GYN now just asked me to clear all doubts and get a scan. Since PCOS did come up on the scan I am being cautious and doing whatever possible to ensure that it doesn´ t complicate my TTC. Fortunately for me, I just got my period yesterday. So you can say my cycle has come back to normal 30 days.

I would suggest you to take control of the situation and not let it control you. It is extremely painful to learn one has this condition and conceiving may not be as simple as we had imagined it to be. But the main thing is that we shouldn´ t dwell in the failure of TTC for too long. We should pick ourselves up and think of our options positively. This is test of mental, emotional and physical strength and we should overcome it. Trust me, Rose, there are people who are going through much worse in life and we should be grateful for the good things happening in our lives. I don´ t want to preach here but I just want to try and make you see the brighter side. Can you imagine when you do conceive? Won´ t it be wonderful to know that you have emerged a winner from all of this? Everything happens for a reason so just think of it as something that you have to just go through and come out victorious.

I really hope I haven´ t said anything wrong. At first I was extremely upset at knowing about my PCOS condition. But decided a little positive thinking will go a long way.

So now, let´ s approach your problem systematically, together if you like (we´ re all here to help), and then get a solution. What say?

Hey KR, we missed you these past 2 days. Didn´ t see a msg from you.

Megs, hope you´ re doing fine. Like I said, my period started yesterday and now I´ m looking fwd to starting the BBT method.

Love n hugs,
Babysos

Hi Megs, babysos,

Its great to know that I can join this enthusiastic circle of friends.

While i was reading babysos' s msg yesterday, i found out that even she has pcos and is TTC. Im also sailing in the same boat, except that im underweight.

I have been TTC for 2 months now and it seems i wont be falling pregnant this month as well. My cycles are mostly long (35 days and above) and therefore its always difficult to find out if i ovulated. For that reason i was charting my BBT which did not show any temp rise this month(meaning i dint ovulate).Im approaching my period date in 2 days and which i feel will extend again. I wish my periods would atleast become regular.

But believe you me, when i read about the amount of serious effort you all are putting in to have a baby, it motivates me too. I really wish from the bottom of my heart that we all be blessed with a child. ( It has kinda become my obsession).

Take care girls,
Rose

Hello Rose,
Well I was lil underweight(by 3,4 kgs)n my period cycle was 34 days.Well I dont say that having 34 day cycle is irregular,coz exactly 34 th day I used 2 get it..But if the period cycle is more than 36 days it wud be definately irregular...

Well I conceived the first month where I started charting BBT..Yes,if u have conceieved,surely ur temp will be raised during ur luteal phase,n in my case midway in the luteal phase u do gettu see a lil implantation bleeding..n also ur cahrt shows a triphasic pattern..These signs r poistive signs of pregnancy...

May be while charting temp,daily ud idnt record during the same time..Rose while charting,u shd remember that daily u shd chart ur temperature first thing in the morning(without evn getting down 4m the bed),n always try n maintain the same time...Have u done this?

anyways all the best n lotsa baby dust on u

Hi Deepa,

You are welcome! It´ s okay, I just thought I would clear the doubt as your period due was almost the same. Anyway, as I said in the earlier post to you and rose, you guys are always welcome to talk to us anytime. We became very gud friends with the help of this thread and hope we could be of support to anyone who needs us.

As babysos said you shud continue your excercise. I use to go for brisk walk everyday for atleast 25 mins. So ask your Gyn abt the mode of excercise you can do during TTC and best of all eat healthy food. Take lots of fluid, fresh veg and fruits everyday. And ask your hubby to do the same too. And are you taking any folic acid? If not consult your Gyn abt that too.

Good luck, take care and lots of baby dust on you!

Love,
KR

Hi there..

You should exercise. Coz being overweight makes it tougher to conceive. The fitter you are the better your chances of conception are. Walking does not harm conception or even once you conceive, it is not known to harm the foetus. In fact you will have a healthier pregnancy. So please consult your GYN and ask her what kind of exercises will be safe while TTC and once you have conceived. My GYN said I could use the treadmill before and after TTC but have to reduce the intensity of exercise once I have conceived. So don´ t run on the treadmill for 20 mins. Instead walk on it for 40 mins. You will get almost the same output and result.

Hope that helps.

Best of luck!

hey guys...

i need help to control my diet... i don' t generally overeat or intake too much junk food but my hubby and i love going out over the weekends to eat... obviously that' s when we tend to eat all the heavy food.. i make sure i exercise everyday for at least 1 hour so i can burn off whatever unhealthy food i' ve eaten on weekends. But how do i control my carb intake? does that mean i have to stop eating rice and bread or just reduce the quantity? also i have a sweet tooth but try and control eating too much... i generally have a half serving of dessert whenever we go out and my hubby eats the other half... so what else can i do? like i mentioned, i weigh 60 kgs and my height is 5' 6\" . Could do with some ideas!

Subject:  Thanx a ton!!! :)

Hi Megs,

Thanx for all the info!!! I feel my diet as of now is very similar to what you have said. I don´ t eat white bread as a strict rule and have put everyone in my house under that rule :) Also whenever i make pasta at home, i make sure it is whole wheat pasta. I have oatmeal or cereal without sugar for breakfast. I usually add Splenda to my oatmeal. At 11 in the morning i usually have fresh tomato juice. I am veg at home so I try to eat a lot of antioxidant veggies. Lunch is generally 2 chapatis and 2 vegetables OR rice and daal. At dinner, I usually eat light coz I hate sleeping on a heavy tummy. I have potatoes only in the form of aloo parathas or pav bhaaji which is made once a week at dinner. Since they are heavy I limit my intake. I have non veg only on weekends and do indulge in desserts once in a while and over weekends when i go out with my hubby. I don´ t snack on chips or other fried Indian foods coz I don´ t have a liking for them too much. I do love chocolates so I have a mini Snickers bar or mini Twix bar once or twice a week. But i make sure it is a mini chocolate bar. Same goes for ice cream. I try and limit it though i love having it. I eat as much as fruit as possible but less of the high calorie and fattening ones like mango, etc. And I have started drinking slim milk. No coffee, tea or sodas for me. So in all, i think i´ m not too badly off with my current diet. I will use your input as well, which is really very good. I have also started that almond, raisin & fig in the morning after soaking it in drinking water every night.

I was and am following the above diet but since the doc said I had to lose more weight I wondered if I was doing anything wrong or had to do something more to improve my health. But now since you have given me the info I feel more confident that I am on the right track. So thanx again!!! :)

I´ ll keep you guys updated on if my period comes on 25th this month or not.

Hugs,
Babysos

Subject:  sum input

Hello babysos,
Ur not over weight.Ur healthy..But anyways for the qsn u´ ve asked I have sum inputs- here it goes--
Try including more whole wheat bread.Ie replace ur normal white bread with whole wheat bread.

Also white rice or basmathi rice contains more amt of starch in it,so alternatively u can use brown rice,its very gud....Anything which is made of whole wheat is very gud,n healthy.So try n include that in ur diet...sum of the Food u can have are--
* High-fiber fruits and vegetables (not including potatoes)
* Bran cereals (1 oz)
* Many legumes, including chick peas, kidney beans, black beans, lentils, pinto beans (5 oz cooked, approx. 3/4 cup) and also--
* Pearled barley:
1 cup cooked
* Brown rice: 3/4 cup cooked
* Oatmeal: 1 cup cooked
* Bulgur: 3/4 cup cooked
* Rice cakes: 3 cakes
* Whole grain breads: 1 slice
* Whole-grain pasta: 1 ¼ cup cooked
* No-sugar added fruit juices: 8 oz
..
Food u shd avoid r-
* Baked potato
* French fries
* Refined cereal products: 1 oz
* Sugar-sweetened beverages: 12 oz
* Jelly beans: 10 large or 30 small
* Candy bars: 1 2-oz bar or 3 mini bars
* Couscous: 1 cup cooked
* Cranberry juice cocktail: 8 oz
* White basmati rice: 1 cup cooked
* White-flour pasta: 1¼ cup cooked

see baby sos,sum type of carbohydrates promote health while others, when eaten often and in large quantities, actually increase the risk for diabetes and coronary heart disease.While it may be true that easily digested carbohydrates from white bread, white rice, pastries, and other highly processed foods may contribute to weight gain and interfere with weight loss, that doesn´ t mean all carbohydrates are suspect. Regardless of what you´ ve read or heard about the dangers of carbohydrates, they are an important part of a healthy diet. Carbohydrates provide the body with the fuel it needs for physical activity and for proper organ function. The best sources of carbohydrates - fruits, vegetables, and whole grains - deliver essential vitamins and minerals, fiber, and a host of important phytonutrients.

If u feel that a low-carbohydrate diet may help people lose weight more quickly than a low-fat diet no one knows the long-term effects of eating little or no carbohydrates. Equally worrisome is the inclusion of unhealthy fats in some of our diet.
If you want to go the lower carb route, try to include some fruits, vegetables, and whole-grain carbohydrates every day. They contain a host of vitamins, minerals, and other phytonutrients that are essential for good health and that you can´ t get out of a supplement bottle.

Adding Good Carbohydrates

For optimal health, get your grains intact from foods such as whole wheat bread, brown rice, whole-grain pasta, and other possibly unfamiliar grains like quinoa, whole oats, and bulgur. Not only will these foods help protect you against a range of chronic diseases, they can also please your palate and your eyes.

Until recently, you could only get whole-grain products in organic or non-traditional stores. Today they are popping up in more and more mainstream grocery stores.

Here are some suggestions for adding more whole grains to your diet:

* Start the day with whole grains. If you´ re partial to hot cereals, try old-fashioned or steel-cut oats. If you´ re a cold cereal person, look for one that lists whole wheat, oats, barley, or other grain first on the ingredient list.
* Use whole-grain breads for lunch or snacks. Check the label to make sure that whole wheat or other whole grain is the first ingredient listed.
* Bag the potatoes. Instead, try brown rice or even " newer" grains like bulgur, wheat berries, millet, or hulled barley with your dinner.
* Pick up some whole wheat pasta. If the whole-grain products are too chewy for you, look for those that are made with half whole-wheat flour and half white flour.

so babysos all that u have 2 do is,get lil change in ur diet..ie as I mentioned here--Replace ur High carb food with low n healthy carb.Include more whole wheat things in ur daily diet n also eat lotta fruit.Coz while ur IN ttc u need 2 have fruits...n also if possible try n replace full fat milk with skimmed milk...This also helps..n lil bit here n there,ie if u indulge in eating sweets,theresz no harm..But see 2 it that all other time u eat a healthy diet....

hope this information was lil useful to u...
lotsa luv

Hi KR,

Deepa is someone else altogether. Even my period is due on 25th. But as of my latest development, I have PCOD. Luckily for me, it is not affecting my ovulation though I have been having a 35-40 day cycle for the past 2 months. I am hoping that it at least regularises to 30 days if I am not pregnant this time. Which I may not be coz I was unable to predict ovulation this time. My ultrasound scan showed my ovary in post-ovulation condition so there are no complications. I am going to take a blood test for checking hormonal levels in the next couple of days as my GYN asked me to. As of now I have a slight tummy infection so I am not going to get my blood testing done till it gets better.

That' s the update on my side. I am not stressing too much and am quite relieved that there are no complications with my ovaries, uterus and cervix.

Hope you are doing well. Thanx for starting the new thread. It was getting a bit too much to scroll around for your msgs on the older one. About time we started a new one anywayz.

Whats news from Sherry? Megs, I hope you are doing well. Deepa, don' t worry too much. Things will work out soon enough. This process requires a bit of patience.

Love to all.
