It is indeed amusing to read abc' s views but one encounters those views quite often in India.
Abc, a society that does not accept change never survives. Traditions change with time in so that society can survive. Just imagine if Indian society never changed you and I would be dressing like the Shakuntalas and the Khajuraho sculptures! Now tell me what is worse the Khajuraho fashions or mini skirts?
Do you know that an elderly Indian gentleman was arrested in Canada for indecent exposure, just for walking on the road wearing a thin dhoti and shirt? Once a non Indian once commented to me saying that the sari was one of the sexiest outfits she had seen because it exposes the waistline and the blouses hug your figure suggestively and in many western cultures including the USA this is percieved as a sexually provicative thing!
But Indians think of these dresses as being ultra modest.
So you see it is a matter of perception.
Also had the Islamic invasions not happened in India the Salwar Kameez would never have been an Indian dress. India has always had this great capacity to absorb other cultures and make it their own. That is why it has survived thousands of years of civlization. So wake up and accept the change. The world is a flat place now. Globalization is the word! There is not a place in the world where you can escape it so you might as well accept it! RRR replied.
