Schools around Adyar/thiruvanmiyur area - Nurseries and Schools Discussion Forum

hi parents - what are the good schools around adyar/thiruvanmiyur, Chennai area. i want an overall development of the kid and not just academics alone. I am very new to this school hunting, so pls give me as many details as possible. Also my kid is june 2006 born - when would she be eligible to join PRE-KG? would she be eligible this october? My daughter, June 2005 born is studying in LKG in sankara. the school is good. they have a play-way method. the timing is 9.30 to 12.30 for KG classes. vidya mandir is also good and does not tax the children a lot. but your kid would be able to join pre-kg next year as their cutoff is 31st march. for sankara, the cutoff date is 30th june. so she can join LKG next year.

Priya replied. dear kk, im new to school hunting too, but not in chennai, but in mumbai. but i have lived all my life in chennai. kk, there is a vael' s billabong in injambakkam. it is the best school your child can be and your expectations are exactly the kind of curriculum in billabong. i am planning to put my daughter in billabong high in mumbai. the child will have more fun going to school and believe me, your child will never cry to go back to u or home once they are inside school. the school is very child friendly and noschool in chennai can match it. the fees can be a little higher, but you wont regret the decision.you can even google vael' s billabong and see what they offer yourself. there is vanavani in iit campus. bt thta cbse. but been very good and competitive and bringing very bright kids since sges. let me know if you need to know more. kk replied. hi kk, sorry i cldnt reply earlier. was busy with the festivities. well kk, if im right most schools in chennai work the children longer. its not like tht here in mumbai. thts 1 thing i like abt mumbai. here nursery is for 4 hours. when they have a special activity, they add an hour to the usual time. the same billabong, here in mumbai, works the nursery kids for 4 hours. im sure.

thank you priya again. thats useful. Fees, though not unaffordable for me, is sure on the higher side (fees details are not provided on the site). But yes, am keen on an overall development rather than just academics only, though Academics is important too. My concern looking at the site was the timings - looks like even nurseries have a 9-3pm schedule.. man.. this is unbelieveable. will this not develop an anxiety in the child? i am working too, but my inlaws are at home to take care of my daughter. so not sure if it is wise to keep her out of home for such a long time every day and also on saturdays (9-12). pls advise if you have an experience with kids attending 6 hrs school.

hi kk, i guess the fee structure is there on their site. bt as far as i know d fees shld b sumwhere between 65 to 75 k per annum. im definitely not sure. the schools that u have surveyed on are good as well, in the sense of academics. but will the child have as much fun learning, i cant really say. if play-way-fun method of learning is in ur mind, u must look 4 internatinal boards or icse.

thanks priya. i will google for the details on Vael´ s billabong. Really i have not heard about this school at all. i hv only been thinking of Bala Vidya mandir, Shankara, hindu senior around adyar/thiruvanmiyur area. how about these schools? any idea?

thank you again for this info - pls send me if you have any more details about this school. when you say the fees structure is more expensive, any idea how much it is?
