My son is two years old now and has started eating on his own but he makes a lot of mess. How can I teach him table manners? What is the right time of teaching him? Will he be able to learn now?

Hi Pragya, The best way to teach your child table manners is to make him/her sit with the whole family and eat. At this age thier main talent is to immitate thier parents and surroundings. Hence when the whole familysits together and eats, they will also learn habits and tidy way of eating food. Interesting topics at the table can make the session more pleasant for them. I started it with my child at the age of 2 - she is 3.5 years now and has no problem eating on her own.

You can teach your so the table manners by showing him the right way of eating. He is too small now but will gradually learn to eat without making a mess. Firstly try to teach him how to eat. Once he is able to comprehend, you can teach him other table manners.

Hi Pragya. You can start teaching table manners once your child starts to eat on his own. As your son is now able to eat by himself, so this is the best time. Slowly and gradually he will learn his manners. Till then bear with the mess.
