I live in switzerland. My daughter is 3 mths old. She is exclusively on breastmilk. When she was a mth old she was diagonised with eczema. She had it in her cheeks and hands. My ped prescibed a steroid cream to be applied for a week, he also told that she has a very dry skin and so to apply lots of oil. Now she has severe rashes on her head too. I do apply olive oil twice a day but it doesn't seem to work. I don't want to apply the steroid cream as it is quite strong.

My son had a similar problem when he was around 3 months. e had very ad cradle cap. I used to apply warm coconut oil to soften the hard white scales but Doctor advised NOT TO apply any oil. It seems to aggrevate the problem. You can apply oil for 1/2 hr before bath and shampoo it off but do not leave the oil on the head for longer time. Also, Dr. prescribed anti-dandruff shampp like Selsun Blue which helped a lot.

For body, moisturize the skin as much as possible. Use aveeno Baby or Eucerin. Eucerin is a little oily but helps a lot.

well wisher replied. Your daughter is too young to be on a strong steroid cream. usually our diet has a good role in eczema flare up. Find out from web all the allergy causing foods and avoid those from u'r diet. sad to say u'll be left with very few choices but it's worth the try. Dairy products, wheat , citrus fruits, nuts, berries , corn and the list goes on...And bring back one allergy causing item in u'r diet at a time . So that way u'll know whats causing it. Use cotton clothes, mild detergent and a very short bathe. Try using coconut oil . that seems to be better. in winter keep the thermostat at 68 and in summer at 76. Use humidifier if it's not humid enough. And if u'r place has carpet, i suggest go for a good vaccum and vaccum daily. Keep carpets , blankets and things like that free of dustmites. These are some of the things u can try out.

All the best. Archana replied. Sometimes eczema is because of allergy.My baby had same problem, and I didn't know it till she was 8 months old. She had oil allery. I would suggest don't massage her with any kind of oil just for 1 week. Lets see what happens.
