Iam currently living in US.5 years back i got my passport in thatkal scheme(emergency passport).it was valid for 5 years.now it is going to expire on 23 of jan.in Indian consulate in chicago they usually renew the passpost in one day.so we went there and after that only we realised that they have sealed in the passport saying that\";this passport cannot be renewed without the permission of the office issued\";.so i have to go to chennai passport office to renew it.and they told me that we can still renew it within 6 months of its expiry.
so we have now booked our tickets on 17 of jan to india.but now the problem is my Dh wants to go to kerala my inlaws place first and then come to chennai the last week of his arrival which will be after 10th of feb.he says that there wont be any problem in renewing passport after its expirey and i will get the new one within a week.iam comming back to US only by march 15 as i wished to stay with my mom for a month more.but still iam scared.
can anyone please tell me how long will it take to get my new passport?will there be any problem if i renew it after its expiry.i convinced him to go to chennai first,file the application for new passport and then take care of rest of the work but he is not budging.so please help me with yur advice. My PPT was due to expire on 6th Dec. and I applied with all the valid documents here in Blore on 28th Nov. and got my renewd PPT within 11 days of application. SO do not worry, just logon to their website and book an appointment online and go at that pre-decided time with all the documents so u do not have to wait in the queue. Just be sure about the documents, though so that u dont have to return empty-handed, because even if 1 document is not okay then they will send u back and ask u to take a fresh appointment. Dont be tensed just follow the instructions carefully. Vipin replied. get it renewed before expiry though it is possible to renew it afterwards. So that you have a valid passport at all times
