2006-09-08
Name: Mom2be

Hi,I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. In my ultrasound doctor found that my cervix is shortening. He advised a cervical cerlage surgery. What is it?Is it safe to do?He also said there is a risk of preterm labour?Does he mean i could deliver my baby as early as 15 weeks or later? Will it hurt?Is bed rest necessary?I am a working women ..So it makes me feel sad to sit at home all the time.Does anyone gone through this before? Please need all your inputs.Thank you for sharing your opinion.

PS:I am really scared when i think about the procedure.

Regards,

Mom2be.

Incompetent cervix is quite common and there is no way other than Circlage. You must not get anxious and worried rather get cervix stitched to avoid preterm labor. They will reopen cervix in or around 36th week.

you need bed rest until procedure is accomplished and few days following that until follow up check-up is done.
Think this is in best interest to make baby stay longer and survive in outer environment.
