Hi Sarah, Preeti, Neeti,
Thanks for ur inputs on choosing babysitters. Those are really wonderful points I will keep in mind while looking. I gave a ad in Sulekha. Let me see.
More questions: Will the baby adjust with the sleeping and eating schedule in the babysitters home? Where will the baby sleep? Mine won't fall asleep by herself. Do they give bath to the baby? What all u need to give them while leaving the baby? I hope I can get someone who comes home(nanny). Do I hv to be like a employer to the nanny/BS or treat her like a family person? Which one will work fine?
Hope u guys don't mind answering,
Thanks,
CK

kch replied. Hi CK,
If you are getting someone home then the nanny can adjust to the baby's schedule...If you are sending her somewhere, it will take a little while before the baby adjusts..but they learn really quick at this stage...
As far as treating someone like family or employer is a very good question...I believe it treating like family but at the same time being assertive when needed...I think initially better to be a little firm till the going is smooth then you can loosen up....if you are getting someone home be very clear in what you want/expect of them....one more important thing..keep pead. details and taxicab # available to the nanny/babysitter at all times for any emergency...
Good luck

I have been keeping my baby since last 1 1/2 months(she was 5 1/2 months old at that time) at my neighbour's..
Initially I used to drop her off for 1-2 hours just so that she & Aunty would get familiarized..then slowly leaving her for longer times till I had to join work where she now stays full time..
Also I used to simply take her & feed her there so that she wouldn't feel at a strange place..all this I did 1 month before I had to join..
When I leave I have 2 bags..1 of her assorted toys & the other w/the suff mentioned before..
diapers(5),1 complete dress(top-pants,1 frock),2 towels for the diaper changing thing,2-3 face towels,1 warm blanket,1 cotton sheet,2-3 nipples,2 empty bottles,baby spoons,2 baby bowls,baby food,3 8-oz bottles of prepared formula milk.
i like to give her bath myself ..that is the only solid thing i feel i can do in regular day..
Also I made sure that Tia should be kept on the floor(not on the bed/sofa),so she is on the carpetted floor where a bedsheet has been spread out...I voulunteered to give my bedsheet but my aunty uses her own..also about no TV..
rest all upto you..
btw what is the rate at your area ?
rest al upto you.
all the best.

tina replied. hi ck,
I would prefer indian nanny/babysitter for my baby. I think it would be nice to be friendly with them so they treat our babies nicely too.
I am home with my baby and have never kept my baby with baby sitter. But if i were u I would let the baby sitter come one or two day in advance and so u can teach or show them the way u feed, bath the baby or ur way to make her go to sleep because all this time they are used to it. Also, our babies have time that they usually go to sleep (mine usually takes a nap around 12 noon, 5pm) etc.
Also shalika would have a chance to be with the nanny and vice versa (avoid stranger anxiety). Things needed with baby sitter -> diaper bag (diapers, wipes, diaper rash creme, infant tylenol, qtips, lotion, baby wash, baby oil), formula, bottles, bottled water (whichever u prefer), baby food, towel, extra pair of clothing, blanket, some toys.

oh 1 more thing..I do not keep any medicines w/her..I feel that as it is before any thing to the babies we must confirm w/the doc + many of the baby medicines can be used as a sedative which is so easily used by wrong nannies/babysitters..I rather would like he to give me a call && I wouldn't mind comming & in case of the worst case scenario,911
