Due Date Club August 2008:Baby Shower and Godh Bharai

Considering we all from August club, i guess we all are either already in 7 th month or gonna soon to be in. Means for the first time moms we are most likely to have our baby shower or as they call in India Godh Bharai/Shreemanth.
Let' s us share here, how we are looking forward to it, and how each one of us are gonna have it. '
Like i am a gujurati but married to a Tamilian, in this case we are going to have a mixed shreemanth function.... anyone else tamilian here? how r u going to have it?
And what about others?

Hi dolly,

I am a tamil brahmin. we usually have the shreemanth around 8th month (we go by tamil calendar for this) the husband/ his fmly will perform this function for which our parents have to bring gifts - a saree, dhothi, and few plates of sweets, fruits etc. if they can, they will give gold jewels too. a priest will be called and homam will be done. we have few other rituals....but the above mentioned is common for all tamilians.

hope this helps.

Alright, for me it will be a mix one. As per Gujarati, my husband and myself will be sitting for pooja, function arranged by my inlaws, then my parents will give me Gold and Saree. As per Guju customs, from my in laws side a related lady will put seven different fruits in my Godh. Then a baby (anyone´ s in relation) will be given to us and we have to have this small funny ceremnoy of enacting like as if that is our baby and we (hubby and myself) have to try and handle it for coupel of mins. then Devar, hubby´ s younger bro or frnd will slightly give slaps with kumkum hands to bhabhi (myself), that is for fun, as if devar feeling jealous that now he is no longer the younger one in hte family.
Then according to Tamil customs, my Mom in law will give me gold, saree, put red and greem glass bangles 20 and 21 each in both the hands, my is in laws will gift me south indian jhumkas, they believe that sound of bangles and jhumkhas gives soothing sound that will keep the baby entertiand through the pregnancy, means i don´ t have to remove them till i deliver.
And then food and fun.
I am really excited and looking forward.
we don´ t have any gifts for the expected baby yet, as both the sides believing in not doing any shopping prior to the brith.
