Hi Arti, Hetal n Smile,

Thanks for ur inputs and I do agree the kids wants us to sit with them.

For laya currently she owns 4 dvds
1) Baby genius nursery rhymes
2) baby genius children songs
3) baby genius animal adventures
4) baby einstein old mcdonald

if she gets bored with these i rent it from library. the other baby einstein dvd she liked was baby noah and nothing else interests her. she didnt like sesame street, barney .i Try them first by borrowing from library and once she shows interst then I buy it for her.

Books. Laya owns BIG Animal book, Babys first day out book and picture alphabet, numbers, fruits vegetables. I still havent introduced shapes to her. For teaching her color i use the LEGO Blocks. n she has small board books too.. And every now n then i keep bringing herbooks form library n read to her..the problem is figuring out which book is ggood..there are so many and only few interests laya... Currently am reading \" Good Night Moon, Good Night Gorilla, I love you through and through. \" even if i dont read she likes to sit with these books
and one more book tht she likes is \" brown bear brown bear what do you see.?\"

I havent still got any puzzle board to her..thought it will take time for her to understand...may be i have to give it a try..

And audio cds I play her rhymes most of time n some tamil n hindi songs..i am renting this from library too. was wondereing if there are any good toddler music to play for her..

recently she has been humming rhymes and saying alphabets not all she starts with ab goes to hi and goes to mo.. and alsos says eieio from the old mcdonald song. i personally feel this may be due to her more audio time. what ever she is doing playing or reading i think she concentrates on music too and she correctly points whats the next song gonna be by action.. its really becoming tedious to keep her occupied the whole day.

And regarding her ARt i bought her crayola washable markers i hvent got crayons. and crayola washable finger paint. its easy to wash n goes off skin n cloth easily.. you get them in walmart, target or anyother stores..hetal thanks I will get her the aquadoodle it shd be safe n easy ...

And arti dollar tree near our place doesnt have that much book collection i did try there earlier. May be i have to visit them again and check if they ahve included any books..
Ill try the clifford series and the other titles you have mentioned from library before buying it..

Thanks girls...

Love to ur babies
Anitha

hi Anitha,
I have baby einstein series( 3 of those), neighbourhood animals, baby da vinci and numbers. Savir loves to watch baby da vinci and he knows pretty much all the parts of body. But doesn't want to tell when asked to. Regarding books, he likes pretty much all books, like colors, numbers, abc. Iguess they don't get bored if you show them one book each time. In fact Savir loves to see the color book all day. He doesn't know the colors, but would love to look at the pictures. If I ask him how does the lion opn its mouth he would opan and show, what sound does snake makes, he would say hiss... likewise they get excited to see the pictures in the book and that is how they start relating. Like Hetal said the kids doesn't know to play by themselves. Now I can see a big difference. previously Savir doens't play alone, now a days, he likes to explore with his toys, atleast for 10 mins. Regarding, music, I don't play particular music, he likes western classical, I used to listen to this cd when I was pregnant, Now also if he doesn't want to sleep and if I play that cd he would sleep off immediately. I don't have a specifimusic for him, I put right from his rhymes to old hindi movie songs. He loves music he listens to all kinds of music. Love to Laya

i have baby einstein series,,but she likes only old macdonald,,rest all she isnt much interestd,,,
also, want to add that it dpends on how far we sit with them and make them understand whats going on in the tv..if you let them sit alone with not only tv but also with toys,,they will just stare and wont understand nething !!! its upto parents/all of us to make them understand wats going on in the tv,,,like whenever the nickjr, dora the explorer comes, they ask a ques,,who do we ask for help when we dont where to go,,,the answer is MAP,,so i speak loudly the map,,and she learns things that way,,,

with ne toy or ne place whenever a baby is left alone, the first thing he does is keep wondering n the second thing that comes in her mind is just feel it and babies until 3 years of age are not good players or are able to understand on their own!! they need a lil push from us..
before that process of staring and wondering starts its upto parents to divert them and make kids understand that see this is how this thing works and this is how it is interesting and that she is supposed to make use of it,,now whenever that ques is asked, even though nirja doesnt understand much about it,,she answer The map !! forget about understanding part, but she learned that word,,and the other good thing is she understands that this answer is for that question only !! which means relativity...thats good !!
well, this worked for me pretty welll this way,,...just my experience with whatever dvds, cds, i have and as to how i made her learn from them !!!

this is a very good article. even in the parenting section of baby tv it was discussed.
nirja watches nickjr or baby first tv,,in her morning schedule until i finish my meals,,after that she hardly gets time for tv..
i got some books like Baby first abc, baby first animals, baby first words, baby first colours,,baby first series,,its in babyrus,,i gather as soon as i get a new one in the stores,,she njoys it alot...

also she like winnie the pooh stories so hv those hard wood books,,nd there are some pop up books where if you pull the peekabooo flap,, you can see the hidden parts of body or ne animal and such things,,and they have batteries in it,, but i have to sit with her and read or teach her..otherwise she will tear off the paperr flaps..
i dont rem all the names,,but m sure you will see them clearly in the preschoolers section,,you have to browse for them!!
i also got her some puzzles of animals that have lil handle thats just right for their tiny fingers,,,,when she keeps the respective animal in that puzzle/shape,,it makes the resp sound,,its fun,,also the same with abc,1,2,3,all types of transport vehicles, forest and farm animals,,,emotions,,and colours, shapes, and music instruments,,,,she njoys it because all those makes diff sounds or will play resp music.so you can try that....
all these books and puzzles are some 2-4$$,,

i got her aquadoddle for her drawing and a large booklet that you can throw on ne ground and she can sit on it and do all her drawings/lines or scratches,,,and no mess at all, newhere,,all safe,,no prob even if she chews the pen,,it has water only !!

anitha,,,what all books you have ????

Hi Anitha, that was an interesting article to read- thanks for fwding. I am glad now that we haven't bought any DVDs for Arjun yet except that his dad bought one long time back from Costco which we have played only once. Arjun doesn't show any interest in those DVDs or TV shows- I tried 4-5 times and now am glad that he didn't.
As far as books are concerned, I usually get those from dollar tree. It takes time to find some good ones but I usually do get some interesting ones like curious caterpillar, beatiful butterflies, number, animals, shapes, opposites and all. Others which I got which are more on the story lines are not from dollar tree, they are in clifford series and some musical books along with hide and seek ones. Also good night moon, jump frog jump, the very hungry caterpillar, three little kittens all are classic nice ones you could get at borders or barnes and nobles, if you don't have those. Some books have built in puzzles blocks for young children. So overall got plenty of books for him. Also I have some flash cards - baby einstein ones but he doesn't like those as much as he likes books.
He shows special interest in animals and cars so got some books in that section too.
I don't have much of music CDs for Arjun. I just have the baby einstien classical music and one set of toddler music ( 5 CDs each one has around 26 songs). I think thats more than enough for him now but may be not. He will tell I think once he'll be bored by those.

Anitha, I saw Laya's artwork and I was wondering what kind of supplies you use and from where I could get those.

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
