Hi All,
Please help me here. I am really confused, i had been searching on the web and was wondering did you guys had to get your kids vaccinated for Malria or yellow fever when you went to India with your children. My airline mentioned it to me that I should get my son vaccinated for these, I am not sure if I should.

Also Arti or anyone who has the experience, if you can answer I would appreciate, I know you are also going to India with your kid, were you able to get the front bulkhead seat. My airline tells me that is reserved for infants with bassinet and as my son has his seat (I finally bought him the seat)they will not give me that front row seat?? Pl help and views or suggestions!!!
Thanks a million
Ritu

Hi Ritu,

abt the malaria shot, i did ask the doc before leaving for india, but at that time, Anushka was too young for the shot. Best thing, call up your ped and ask.

Abt the airline seat, yes, if hadn't taken a seat for your son, they would have given u the front bulkhead seat. You won't get both. Coz they reserve the front bulkhead seats for kids younger than 2 yrs old who don't hve a seat so that they can use the bassinet.

Regds,
Sheetal

I had checked with arjun's ped and my PCP and they said that we don't have to get any vaccinations as they have side effects and they haven't heard of anyone coming to US carrying malaria or such diseases from India, also if we happen to get one, its curable in India. I am scared of dengu & chicken gunya but heard that chiken gunya is disappearing and hopefully dengu should be gone too by the time we visit india, we are going in Nov end.
I have heard about travel clinics though which you could visit in your area and they can advice you on what all precuations to take. we haven't visited one yet but plan to before going to India.
take care and have a wonderful safe trip.
We haven't inquired to get a front row seat or a bassinet for Arjun so i don't know about that.

Hi Ritu,
I didn't get my son vaccinated to any of the shots you mentioned. The best thing to do is to talk to your ped abt this. They will give you a phone # of the doc who is just there for travel purposes. They will check to which part of India u r gonna go & advise u abt the shots that r neccessary in that part of the world in the particular timeframe of ur travel.
Coming to your 2nd ques, the airlines will provide a seat or a bassinet for infants under 1 yrs of age provided u request for it before ur travel date. For babies 1 yr or older, they dont provide anything. My personal preference would be not to take any car seat with you. Just take an umbrella stroller with u & u will be fine. If u r travelling with ur partner,u might not need even that.
hope it helps
Pooja

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

I used the puzzles, the wooden blocks for alphabets and numbers.... - Sheetal [View Message]
try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
