Hi everyone,
I have a 31/2 yr old son and he is going to nursery and I' m planning to put him for LKG this June. His present school is not giving any stress on writing skills. So can anyone tell me, for his age how much he should able to write ABC... and 123....

from my personal experience montessori has a great way of encouraging a child to prepare for writing with its pre handwriting activities followed by tracing and actual writing. I know Vivaa is great at this . call nine three four two four one zero six zero two for details.

LKG admissions r almost completed in most of the schools in blore. Whts ur plan? which school u tried?

Reg writin skills, those days we all strtd only in LKG or UKG. but things have rapidly changed now. The kids r also born with great talents now, only thing we shd be smart enough to identify their skills. Things go easy once they finish off writing patterns. Now im teaching words for my son. Next year he learns phonetics and start reading to himself. He writes little in small alphab. rest r thru with my son. By UKG the kids shd learn hindi, so let them get the concept of eng, maths by that time. In market u get lot of preschool books. U can put him on a particlar book. At school and at home we give him HWorks only on weekends(fri, sat)thats all.It took one whole year for me to bring my son to this level. so remember, u cant change the things overnight. Gradually do it. he will come with great outcome. dont worry and never compare hime with other kids. cheers pammi!

Good schools only take the child to LKG when he is 4+. My son is born end of Aug and he is short by 3 months. I am trying Frank Anthony, Bishop cottons and few more schools. Which school your son goes?

Hi,

Im a bangalore mom. My son goes to prep currently. By june he will be in LKG. but like to tell u that he has already completed A to Z, 1-20 written and till 100 in oral. genrlly kids have a high grasping power at this age. I never forced him. The writing skills depend on so many other factors like school methodology, quantity time at home, and the peer friends etc.,dont force ur son. u have to gradually pull down his interest by startin with colouring, sketchin, finger coloring etc.,start with standin and sleeping lines, and curves.

cheers!

Hi Nina,
Your reply is a good help. Actually the school which he is going is not putting more stress on writing skills. And till now I was not even aware that nursery kid should know writing. I thought it starts only after he joins LKG. He is good at standing and sleeping lines. If I give him four dots then he can write ´ I´ ´ H´ ´ X´ after I tell him how to write. Curves are still a problem. And till now I didn´ t try any numbers. I thing I should spend more time with him and encourage him. Once he gets confidence then it won´ t take much time.
Actually I am also in B´ glore. Looking out for good schools for LKG.

Hi,
Dont worry.. My son started writing only after going to LKG. Children as such are not ready for writing till they are 4.. hence dont force.. Just enjoy

Writing is a skill of firs thiking and then putting them on paper (one could for example write using a secretary :-)
While calligraphy is about formation of letters.
To me schools stress too much on the later - while they should focus on the former - as in writing skills.
Children as young as one-two year could be encouraged to write - obviously you may not be able to read their handwriting - but then thats not the point - the idea is to encourage expression. So forget ABCD - focus on thoughts and words. (read more at geniekids

RE:What Toddlers Should Be Learning?
Toddlers are at a crucial stage of learning, where foundational skills for life are being developed. At Skillmatics, we believe toddlers should be learning cognitive abilities like problem-solving, memory building, and recognition of shapes, colors, and patterns.
