What was the first recognisable word that your child said? What was the first book you read to your child? Do you think speech delays are common among children?

Subject:  Help! My child not speaking

I have a big problem. My son is almost three but he still does not speak much. He only manages few words and one or two sentences. What can I do to make him speak normally? I tried many ways to make him start speaking properly however nothing is working. Some body please suggest me a good doctor who can solve my child’s problem. I am really worried about my child. I just want to make him talk properly otherwise it will hamper his academic development

Kalpana,

Did you consult a Ped about it? My son who´ s 2 1/2 just diagnized as PDD-NOS for the same reason(s). Let me know if you want to share more information and we can help each other on this.

BTW, we are in USA.

Thanks.
Ram.

If you want your child to speak then you should definitely read to her. Just like how mothers listen to music when they are expecting, you should also read to your child. Then she learns words faster. Also keeping talking your child will help her to take interest in talking. This strategy will help to avoid speech delays and also improve intelligence of your child. Also seek help of your doctor at an earliest if you notice such problems. It is very important to treat speech delays at right time.

Subject:  Why boys develop slower?

I have personally seen this with my children. My son only started talking after he became two years old but my daughter spoke much faster. I want to know if anyone can tell me why boys have more trouble speaking as compared to girls. I want to find out whether it is caused only in case of my son due a speech delay disorder or it is same in each case of a boy child. I am very confused. Please some body guide me regarding this speech delay disorder. I will be extremely obliged if some body tell me in detail about such disorder speaking disorder. I will be very thankful, please help!

Vasant,
Is your son talking just like any peer of his or he still has any speech or behaviour issues? I´ m asking this because it could be PDD-NOS and we´ re utterly in ignorance of this.

My son is 2 1/2 years and he still does not speak. We took him to Ped Neuro and he diganised him as a PDD-NOS and we will have to start Speech Therapy.

Let me know...

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. My son is less than 4 and has been diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum. He is non-verbal. We are taking him for OT and ABA/speech therapy.

Meanwhile, I read about an Ayurvedic hospital called Kerala Samajam hospital in Shoranur. Has anyone gone there for treatment? Any reviews?

Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
