Need your help on this.Im ttc from the month of April.Im having a vaginal bacterial infection for the last 2 weeks.My PCP put me on antibiotics (7 days )and Im still under medication for the next 2 days.The drug information says that this antibiotic should be avoided in the first trimester of pregnancy.I cant say if I pregnant right now coz my periods are due only around 21st of May.Im a bit paranoid and called up and spoke to a gynaec about this.She feels that though they dont recommend this drug during the first trimester,the benefit of this drug outweighs its risks and it becomes important to treat the infection first and also it cannot be clearly determined whether Im pregnant or not now.Im very confused and so restless.I also have stomach pain and cramps which I think are side effects of this drug.Please give me some words of advice.Your reply is very much appreciated. archie replied. What your OB said is what I would have that the treatment of infection is primarily important than weighing possibilities of pregnancy.
If this was amoxicillin then some stomach cramps are expected. Without knowing what antibiotic is prescribed almost tough to comment on that part and side effects that you may be facing.
I would strongly recommend relax and don't think of pregnancy at this moment. Should you get recurrent infection in next or any cycle before getting pregnant let your PCP know thaat you are ttc and the prescription be made in accordance.
