Last week I posted my situation here telling about the vow my parents had taken for my placement. Now in my fourth year, I am in a dilemma whether to go ahead with the hair offering or to postpone it, since my college is going on. Somehow the topic disppeared (probably due to some objectionable answer), but I remember the suggestion given by Aswathi (excuse me if iam wrong) that I should offer hair immediately so that hair will grow by the time I join the job. Still not able to decide the timing..is it possible if I offer some length with out tonsuring? is it essential to go for shave? ...very confused... Kumuda replied. Krishnaveni, a vow is something one does with sincerity even if it is difficult for the mind or body. Otherwise why call it a vow? Cutting some length and calling it as fulfilled vow is not correct. Do not fulfil the vow with fear of retribution if not done. Do it with love, devotion and respect to God.
I suggest that you wait for your full BE course, get into the employment you have got, work for about six months. By then you would have got some more confidence. Then go for a full tonsure with pride and happiness. That is the way to fulfil a vow. Do not be afraid that your employer may object. If they cannot object to a boycut how can they object to a bald head? Maximum is that you may have to wear a scarf for about a month.
If marriage comes in between tell your inlaws before hand about it. You may go for the tonsure a few months after the marriage in that case.
If cutting off a small length of hair can be treated as a vow, then one could say that all those ladies/girls who visit beauty parlour for bobcut/boycut could be considered as fulfilling vows!
