Dont worry friend!! I gues we all were as tense before our first child, but its not so tough!!! just go thru some internet sites to understand the logic behind each medical intervention. Becasue if u understand why a certain test or examination is being performed, then u will feel more comfortable.

Internal exams are just to check the position of the babies head and how dialated the cervix openeing is!!!! i know it is uncomfortable, but everyone goes thru it!!!! so just take it in your stride.

when u see your baby after the whole process, u wont even remember it. I only thought of it today when u mentioned it here on the board!!! so its all worth it for your litle one!!! just wait for him and think of all the good things u will do with him!!!

best of luck!!!

My dear...do not worry about the tests and exams...they are good to do since it's for the best interest of your unborn child.

With my first pregnancy, I too was very shy and I didn't like to be probed, I didn't want to be touched in those areas by the doctor or nurses. I found that if I looked merely at the reason, the reason being because it was the best way to check the progress of my child, I had a different perspective even then.

Maybe, you could have your sister or sister in law sit in with you; or some other female relative you feel close to.

For me, it was out of the question to have another person sit in with me, but it's just a thought.

Your husband needs to at least come to one of your appointments if possible. It would be ideal if he came to more than a few to give him a better understanding of what you're going through.

Is your husband really shy about this? Many husbands are. Just ask him and see, but don't pressure him.

good luck dear!

I too never had an internal exam until I got pregnant, and was very nervous. It may seem rather humiliating at first, but it's not really. It's just the doctor making sure that everything is as it should be. Now I'm a mom, and internal checkups are not embarassing anymore, just a little uncomfortable. It will help if the doctor is somebody that you are comfortable with.

Childbirth is also okay, try not to pay too much attention to the horror stories that others may tell you. It is hard, but it is doable. I had a good experience with childbirth. The hard parts are really the weeks that come after childbirth, the breastfeeding, the exhaustion, and so on. Being prepared will help.

Do a web search for pregnancy and you'll come across tons of sites with information. Also look at the Expecting parents month-by-month forums on indiaparenting. It is a great help to share concerns with people who are in the same stage of pregnancy.

Best of luck! Don't worry, the end result will be worth everything. How is your pregnancy going?

Aparna.
