manju, 1year toddlers,dont sleep more 13-14 hours in 24hours.
just make sure he doesnt get tired and gets a nap atleast if he gets hyperactive once a while..
toddlers in their beginning days of maturing show hyperactive activities and often get overtired,,once overtired, they will nap in deep sleep for 5-6hours and then wakeup again for plays..thats y he wakes up at middle of night..nirja used to do that before her bdays,,she will sleep at 8 in evenings, wakeup at 2 at night when we were just in sleep. and play as well.
to fix schedule make the schedule considering when your baby is taking longer nap. like in my case, she wakes up in morning 6, takes some 6oz milk and sleeps back at 10-11, and the wakeup at 2 noon for lunch..in that some times she skips her breakfast at 930 sometimes. i have not been successful right now to bring her to eat her breakfast regularly...but after that she eats nicely whole day.
then she will not sleep whole day and will sleep directly at 9/930. at 430-5 evening, she looks tired, and sits a while and if i lift her i know she will sleep. so i just take her out, and now she is with me at my friends place where she has friends to play and i go and attend my college...so she is diverted..sometimes she does happen to sleep no matter how hard i try not to let herr sleep, then i will let her take some 30mins nap and then i will wake her up again.
so hope this give you some idea..
take care,,this is phase, and toddler schedules are hard to manage than babies.
good luck.

Hi Manju,

My daughter Nikku is also doing exactly same thing now-a-days. She is in a transition phase from 2 naps to 1 naps, so sometimes she takes 2 naps and sleeps late, or takes 1 nap and sleeps early. And most of the times she gets up after 6-7 hrs of sleep and starts playing. She plays for arnd 2 hrs and goes back to sleep for another 3-4hrs. I am also trying to figure out what to do. I think since its a transition phase maybe she is getting up. Also, I was thinking of putting dark bedsheets on window and seeing if it makes any diff. Nikku is very sensitive to light and since its summer time, maybe she gets disturbed by the light.. But Still.. I havent still figured out what to do? Definitely will tell u if I know. Meanwhile, when Nikku gets up, I bring her from the crib to the hall, give her some toys, and take a nap on the couch. She doesnt disturb me while playing, so thats good in a way. you can try that. And as you said, making your kid take only 1 nap also makes them sleep better..

Chalo bye,
Bhairavi.

Subject:  Should not be problem

Hi Manju,
Diverting baby' attension from one thing to other should not be problem. When you say forcing baby to sleep once in day, I m sure you mean here diverting him to something else like taking him out and play with him or play songs etc..

My son has exactly the smae schedule of sleeping twice in day for 2-3hrs and sleep well in night. I think for your son it must be momentarily when he woke up at 3am. Make sure he is not hungry and son't switch off light.

For my son, darkness is source of sleep. Even if he has got up at 8pm IST from his second day sleep, he can very well sleep back again at 10pm with only one condition silence and light switch off. Any of these conditions not fulfilled, means he will not sleep.

Take care,
Sudha

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
