Due Date Club July 2005:m leaving my job

Hi girls,

just venting it out!!!! I can't cope up work and Anushka. Though I work from home and that too parttime. But its just getting more and more impossible to manage both. I just gave a notice to my company and I hope I am doing the right thing. I would work in the mornings when she is still asleep, but her timings have changed, she wakes up with me, and she wants all the attention now. I salute the moms who manage both, work and baby. We definitely need help here in US. Either daycare, or a nanny then. Since I dont want to send her to daycare yet, and hiring a nanny wouldn't be a good idea for me now, I have no choice but to leave work.

On the other hand, she is doing good so far. Not walking independently though. Still furniture cruising. I have completely given up the bottle for her. She has milk twice a day in her sippy cup.

Wish you all luck in managing these cute attention-seeking baby-monsters, not that I am complaining coz I love to see her do her masti. :):)

Regards,
Sheetal

sheetal, ne decision that gives your family and kids a first priority is always a good decision.esp for first time mothers like us.
if its not needed for you to work, y unnecessary get tired,,,if you feel you want to work or is needed, then try to make an arrangement with some good friend who has couple kids and you two can exchange baby sitting like i am doing.
my friend has 3 kids, all toddlers, newly. and she is mexican but all her kids are healthy and had never had a single infections and are very well mannered,,so i can rely on her that she knows how to take care of kids, and she too is studying trying to complete her masters in same college as mine. nirja didnt go to daycare, no matter wat, after 1 hour, she would go out of control and we had to run to get her. and my this friend cant afford to put 3 kids in daycare as the fees are huge ! so we adjust our lectures acc to eachother convinience and we baby sit eachother kids..also nirja is youngest so for me, she gets to learn alot from all 3 kids.
and this is working pretty well for me,,if you have someone like that, you can continue and its fun that way, you learn a lot esp if the kids are older than your baby.
just thought of giving you some idea, if in case you change your mind :) & if your job allows u flexible hours as per ur convinience.
otherwise, being with family is the best part and none on earth can satisfy you that i am goin to take care of your baby nicely :)) and right now its the best time for us to enjoy our kids..
hope you enjoy a very good time with anushka.
Good luck

I agree no one can take care of baby than mom, but still you may want to think of daycare or nanny before you resign – at least give it a try.

I am working and doing my MS. I started my first job in US after my daughter was 6 months and I was very scared / worried to send her to daycare. But believe me now my daughter is so used to the daycare, its routine and children of her same age, that she gets bored on weekends. She is so happy on every Monday when she meets all her friends. She also has got routine - she plays n stays in daycare daytime and evening she comes home. The important thing is kids become social in daycare, they learn many things faster from elder kids, no anxiety problem and it becomes easier when it comes to sending them to school too. Only thing is you have to find a good daycare.

I personally never wanted to have nanny just because baby would not have any company and there is no way to find out how things are going at home behind your eyes.
It becomes more difficult to send baby to daycare when babies grow up , so I personally would suggest, try to find good daycare or nanny and give it a try.

All the best
Suchie.

Hi Sheetal,
I completely understand your situation as myself face that dilemna of quitting or continuing mu job all the time. But I guess I am not that kind of a person who could quit the job that easily. I think you made the right decision of investing your time in your child's future. Make sure that you get time for yourself too otherwise you will feel like going back to work again:) all the best.

Hi sheetal
Just thinkinhg about you yestreday didnt know what you were up to. Now i know. This maybe a good reason for you to stay at home i know that your job involved caals and interpreting text in writing which you need full attention for... is there baby sitting available near you anyone indian who could help out inthe mena time look for a part time job or someihing near by. for your peice of mind.
How is Anushka doing? good she is not walking that one less thing you need to run after for. How does she drink in sippy? i mean does she hold and drink everything or does she need a hand with that. Dylan has a sippy but after few seconds he starts playing with it. he is on organic milk and doing well considering he has cows milk allergy in beginning.
Dylan wishes Anuskhaben happy raksha bandhan

Hi Priya, Hetal, Suchi and Arti,

thank you all. I think your suggestions are very good. Daycare can be a good idea. But I am still on H4, so I dont make a lot of money yet. If i have to put most of my money in daycare, its a waste i feel. AFter really thinking abt this, I think it would be appropriate to put ANushka in daycare like 3-5 months down the line. When she has started to walk and talk a bit. So, I guess I should just take a break for a few months, spend time with her, and then go back to working. No point in takign too much trouble to work as well as manage her. Hetal, Suchi, Priya, Arti, thank you so much.

Regards,
SHeetal

Hi Priya,

Anushka likes her milk cold, straight out of the fridge. I'll give her the sippy, she holds it, drinks it for a while, throws it away, then comes back to it. Its not as smooth as the bottle, but nevertheless, not bad at all. Sometimes i mite hve to run after her with the sippy...bit i want her to forget her bottle. So we are doing good. Plus its just twice a day. In the afternoon and at bedtime.

I had always given her soy-based formula, but the normal whole milk seems to be workign fine with her. I guess she grew out of her allergy. Priya, i have misplaced your cell number, i hve ur home number. I;ll try callin u there.

Regards,
Sheetal

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

HI Gayathri,

I used the puzzles, the wooden blocks for alphabets and numbers.... - Sheetal [View Message]
try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
