Due Date Club October 2003:Ques about ob/gyn

Hi girls,
I find my ob/gyn hardly gives me any time during my monthly appointments. It that normal? Whenever I go to her during my appointment, she will do the regular check-up, tell me everythings normal, then explain to me what tests will be there next month and thats it, she is ready to leave. Then I have to stop her cause every month I hv some or the other doubts which I need to check with her. So I have to tell her 'excuse me dr., I had some doubts'. She'll say okay, I will ask her my first question which she will reply and again she is all ready to leave and I have to tell her that I have 1-2 more doubts. This frustrates me a lot. My husband asked about this to his colleagues and they all said that every doctor does like this. They r always in a hurry because of their busy schedule. Is that the case with ur ob/gyns too?? Pls. let me know. I often feel like changing my doctor but she's the best in our town and I dont want to change at this time. Pls advise.

Even my doctor is like that.He hardly wants to talk as if there is a tax on his talking. It really makes me mad as he is the doctor and expected to tell me something.

Hi girls,
Thanks for the info. I will talk to hubby and decide what to do. Yeah, I dont want to change her cause she's the best in the town - rated no. 1, her office is always crowded with patients. So lets see. Thx once again. Bye

Hi Susan!

I'm from Singapore and I guess here also they follow roughly the same procedure. The only difference is that my gyn does an u/s for me each time I visit him. First the nurse will check my wt, bp and urine. Then I go into the doc's room and he will ask me if I am ok, if I had any problems. Then he does the scan and after that it's question time from me as I usually have something or the other to ask him - it's mostly what I learn from you girls and the internet. Then he adjusts my medicines or tops them up if the need be and we're out. My appts each lasts for around 30 - 40 mins. Is that the norm?

Anyway if you feel uncomfortable with the doc, then consider changing her. After all she's the one you have to meet almost daily once you reach your 9th month and who'll deliver your baby....

Cheers :)
Sandhya

I am due in June. I too had the same problem with my doctor. But as my due date is nearing she is spending more time with me. I think as long as she feels you have no problems it is fine. And if she is well known in your city she must be good during emergencies I feel which is most important. You will need a doctor who is good at handling any problem. Also since she is good she must be having a lot of patients. Hope this helps.

Well if all is well the visit as such doesn't last long. For me after iam checked in by my nurse, the dr comes in first&sits down to talk to me abt any concerns i have.Usually she is cool&relaxed&doesn't rush me.We usually say ok thanks&then she examines me&we r ready to go.So Susan we r just providing you with our feedback. personally if u r not comfortable&r not getting all your dbts clarified do consider going to a doc who is more patient or talk to this dr&let her know since this is your first you may have q's at each visit.Gluck!

Susan,
Even my doc jus tells everything is ok and fine and does u/s everymonth and no other advice he gives.
After the checkup we meet him in his room to talk.
I take a big questionaire and ask him. But he answers me patiently, I feel so nice if he talks me for 10 min atleast.
But my only prob with him is if I call him for any q he calls me back the next day or so, sometimes never calls also. I have to keep calling his office.
I am scared what will happen incase of any immediate prob I need to talk to him right away. Other than that he is ok

This is my info... decide for urself.
