Hi All,

We had a baby girl in Dec 04 after so much of trying and IVF and now she has this horrible rash all over her body. First when she was 2 weeks old she had it on her cheeks and now she has it all over her body. She has vey dry and red patches on the inside of her elbow and behind her knees and neck. She does not seem to scratch them yet as she is only 2 months old and I am not sure if it iches or not. I don't know what to do. I am going cracy thinking about the eczema stuff. My ped has said that right now it does not look like eczema but it could be. There is also some oozing from the red patches. Could someone shed some light on this and let me know if you have go through the same problem. I used Eucerin cream on her but that does not help. Now I apply Vaseline cream on her since yesterday and wishing it helps.
I live in US, in chicago

Please reply soon.
Jaya.

Hi,

My baby too had very dryskin and mild eczyma. Doctor adviced eucerin. It did not suit her skin. She got red blisters all over her body. Then we switched to Aveeno baby lotion upon our friends suggestion. Even that did not suit her. Then doctor adviced to apply acquaphor.
It worked like a charm.

Hi,
I live in U.S. Have a 14 month old. She had eczema since she was 3 months old. She had vey dry and red patches on the inside of her elbow and behind her knees and neck and everywhere she has joints, she had them on the cheeks also. She used to itch and bleed. The ped suggested that it will go away on its own ones she is a year old. According to the ped it was a case of mild eczema. He also suggested. Dressing the baby in fewer clothes, trying to find out the food (incase any) that might be causing it and also he suggested us to apply \";Cetaphil\"; cleanser for bathing and \";Cetaphil\"; Moisturizer for keeping the skin moistened.
I couldn't zero in on the formula or breastmilk so I tried \";Gentle naturals Ezcema cream\";, it says all the ingredients are naturals like \";Jojoba,camphor etc.\";, it was working like magic and that made me doubt it. I had a feeling it might have steroid in it since it was magical. Everytime I put it, the rash would be better. I couldn't really prove that it has steroid since I couldn't find anyfacts on the net either. You can give it a try until the rash becomes little better and then maybe switch to something else.I then stayed with the \";Cetaphil\"; and it has helped a lot. Also I massaged the skin with coconut oil and it seem to have helped. My ped was surprised to find out this use of coconut oil. I also felt the live enzymes in yogurt helped her skin. Since I started feeding her yogurt it really made a major difference. I read this somewhere else in the net also. Once your baby is old enough to try yogurt, pl. give it a shot. Actually the salt in the water in occean places like flourida had worked for a family with their son(he took a dip in the occean) having severe ezcema but once they returned from thier vacation it came back. But since it was a severe case I think the saline in the air in Indian cities with humidity may help us all.
Now my daughter is 14 months and having cereals, rice , dal, yogurt, 2% milk and eating most of everything we eat. So far is not allergic to anything I know and her ezcema is 95% cured.
For nowShe has no itching problems and I am relieved. My only concern is she has different skin tones in parts of her body...her face is very bright, her tummy is little less bright and her thighs, legs are really dark. I am hoping a trip to India might fix the entire thing. The ped did tell that excema is the cause for this and it will go away sooner or later. Are u having the same problem with u r baby ? let me know. I hope all this helps your baby and you.
Pl. reply soon and le me know if you need any more info.
Thanks,
Rani

Hi Rani,

Thanks for repying to my message. My daughter also has the same redness around her neck, armpits, inside of her elbow and back of her knees. she has also one red patch on her cheek. she does not have any red patch on her body but some boils on her body. The doc gave me Ediel cream to apply on her and we are doing that for 5 days now and there has been some improvment with that. Her skin has become soft. My daughter is 10 weeks now. how can you see it she it is itching for her or no. Becoz she seems to not scratch her body. Can a 10 week old baby scratch herself. she sleeps fine and eats well. She is only troubled by the gas. I apply vaseline on her.

let me know when you kid started scratching.

Thanks once again
Jaya

Hi Jaya,
I cpmletely understand your problem as i have a 4 motnh old son having eczema.
I am following some of the tips which made him lill better
1)not giving full bath everyday
give the baby sponge bath and don't put 2)thick clothes which can make them sweat.
3) use as much cotton clothes as possible.
4) apply eucerin as many times as possible .
5) Try to let the fresh air come into home

Hope these things will help.
All the best

Janaki

RE: Eczema concern
Hello,

I had a similar query a few months ago concerning eczema occuring in toddlers. As far as I know, it can be due to a varrying number of factors and common foods that end up causing the condition in 1-2 year old toddlers.

In my research I found this article really helpful in addressing the problem:
