Hi,

This is my first pregnancy, 27th week. I never had any morning sickness symptom. Everything was normal till 4th month. When I was in 4th month, found gestational diabetics which is well under control by diet.

I had my anomaly scan done by 20th week and all seems to be fine. By 22nd week, bcoz of lower abdominal pain, I went for one more U/S, but this time doctor found that my cervix has shorten – 2.5 cm. Doctor suggested me to take rest, as I am working couldn’t follow the advise.

Once in a week, I am getting some lower abdominal pain. Doctor advised me to take culture of my urine, but everything is normal. I have read so many articles about urinary infection and still birth. I am so much worried about my gestational diabetic shorten cervix and urinary cervix whether it will affect my baby. Apart from these 3 issues, I never had any other problem like BP, swelling, nausea etc.,

My husband and I dream lot about baby. We are so much excited and eagerly waiting to welcome our baby, but all above issue makes me feel terrible. Sometimes I am so much depressed that I become very moody. Please help me, if anyone knows the information on how to prevent urinary infection and get rid of shorten cervix, kindly share it with me

Hi Lavanya

I had shorten cervix in my first pregnancy. My cervix started dialating in 16th week, what my doc did is put some stiches down there to close the cervix also known as CERCLAGE. and advice me take complete bed rest no work at all. whenever I use to sleep i use to elivate my leg little. then I started seeing high risk doc. he advice me not to even sit straight coz sitting is same as standing coz it will put same pressure on cervix. This i am telling you not to scare you but to tell you what I did. They took out my stiches in 37th week. one of my friend has incompetent cervix and she delivered her baby in 29th week. so try to take leave from work, rest as much as you can, that will be good for you and baby. go for regular ultrasound to measure your cervix, This is my second pregnancy but I am going every other week for ultrasound to measure my cervix coz of my last pregnancy. Hope this will help you . If you have any other question Pls feel free to ask me.
Good luck

Hi Lavanya

I just replied to ur previous post about shortened cervix, well you can try this to prevent urinary infection
Drink 6-8 glasses of water each day and eliminate refined foods, fruit juices, caffeine, alcohol, and sugar.
Take Vitamin C (250 to 500 mg), Beta-carotene (25,000 to 50,000 IU per day) and Zinc (30-50 mg per day) to help fight infection.
Develop a habit of urinating as soon as the need is felt and empty your bladder completely when you urinate.
Urinate before and after intercourse.
Avoid intercourse while you are being treated for an UTI.
After urinating, blot dry (do not rub), and keep your genital area clean. Make sure you wipe from the front toward the back.
Avoid using strong soaps, douches, antiseptic creams, feminine hygiene sprays, and powders.
Avoid wearing tight-fitting pants.Wear loose,comfortable cotton dressses
Wear all cotton or cotton-crotch underwear and panty
and preventing shorten cervix...i don' t know much but resting is one of the good thing you can do to avoid preterm labor.
ALl the best!!
