Name: worried mom

Hello everyone,
My son is 31months old. He is diagonosed with autism few days back. He is under early intervention program for last 7 months. there is drastic improvement in all areas. He was showing few symptoms of autism, eg. poor eye contact, speech delay and not responding to his name. He is very functional and has very good motor skills.he is brilliant, too. good at solving puzzles, immitating, playing with oter kids.He knows all letters, numbers and even can spell names of family members. He understands everything and his expressing language is little deleyed. He started talking in short sentences but only if he wants to say. He still doesn' t ask any questions .All the time he talks, sings songs loudly.I' m very upset.please give me
suggestions .If someone experienced the same please help me. I' m ver worried about his language also. if someone has a speech delayed kid please share yor experience.

thank you so much

My son is 26 months old, he too is doing very well with therapy. We are seeing the doctor again in two weeks, so I will definitely post you on what they say. The areas I' m concerned about are poor eye contact and lack of resonse to his name. I' m told pointing is important which he is starting to do with prompting. I feel once he starts speking everything will fall into place, so I' m hoping and praying it will happen soon. I will definitely keep your child in my thoughts & prayers. Do you have any history of Autism in your family?, BTW PDD is the least potent form of Autism, so even if it turns out to be the correct dx, it is not as bad as being dxed with Autism.

Autism diagnosis does nto necessarily mean the end of the world, just that you will face different challenges from time to time. From what you describe your son seems to fall in the borderline which means he can go onto lead a very normal productive rich life. In some cases autism can become an advantage. My sone has a lot of similar issues but does not have a Dx yet. The doctor wants to take a wait and see approach. I' m told therapyespecially very early can change the outcome considerably. If he has goosd social skills, did the Dr explain to you why he decided to Dx your son with autism? Don' t forget there is no blood test, brain scan to determine for sure if one has autism, instead it is a subjective dx. In the more extreme cases the dx is reletively easy, in your sons case you may want to seek a second opinion. Please don' t let me give you false hope, but the fact the dx can be challenged is a good sign and lessens the severity of the condition... Agree?

Well, the doctor wasn´ t sure also ..she noticed poor eye contact and inconsistant respond to his name, and that´ s all. In her report ,she said " he has PDD,but we should go for the second opinion" .He is doing much better with therapies, but his social skill has to be improved.Well, he loves to play with children (he plays a lot with his sister,he imitates her),but it has to be in his way. whatever he likes,if anyone does those kind of activities he´ ll be good friend with them. So none of us is very sure what is going on !!!And the diagonosis is not the end of the world- i agree with you.We´ ll continue doing whatever we are doing.we are going to eveluate him for the public school system, since he´ ll turn 3 in June...and we think Dx is going to help us there.Hope for the best !! BTW how old is our child??

Speech/language delay - 2.3 yr old boy
Hello Everyone

Our 28 months old boy is not speaking simple 2 or 3 word sentences yet. He speaks a few words such as mama, papa, aunty etc but definitely not more than 10. Also, he doesn't understand slightly longer sentences, even when we speak slowly and enact it such as "we'll go out after we eat". Otherwise, he appears perfectly normal. Hi All,

My son is less than 4 and has been diagnosed to be on the autism spectrum. He is non-verbal. We are taking him for OT and ABA/speech therapy.

Meanwhile, I read about an Ayurvedic hospital called Kerala Samajam hospital in Shoranur. Has anyone gone there for treatment? Any reviews?

Hints for Nursing
Babies eat and eat and eat. Although nature has done a pretty good job of providing you and your baby with the right equipment, in the beginning it's almost guaranteed to be harder than you expected. From sore nipples to tough latch-ons, nursing can seem overwhelming.
