Due Date Club July 2005:Formula Intake

Hi,

Nandana has just crossed her first year. From the very beginning it was difficult to give her formula, and it has worsened now.
She asks for water, and drinks only water, even in her sippy cup.
Every morning its like a fight to make her drink formula. I even see to it that I add formula in juice, cereal, with roti, and ragi.
But will it suffice?
I am really worried.
Please throw some light on this.
Regards,
Soumya.

24-32 ounces total per day,,and if you have started whole milk, its likely that the intake will reduce to some 20oz a day.
your baby is 1 year, start whole milk with vit d. she is ready for it. formula willnot give your 1year baby enough nutrients.
apart from that, you can give wholemilk in the form of kheer,or halwa. you can replace sugar if you havent introduced with banana or boiled raisins.
asking for water means your baby feels thirsty which is obvious in summers,,...give 100% juice, since she is 1 year during late noons. also, try giving milk that is warm but next to cool and not lukewarm. the reason being its summer, often babies fuss with warm or lukewarm foods..
as far as calcium intake, try other forms of milk, like yogurt, cheese, ghee, sour creme, to her diet.it will be enough for your lil baby if takes all of these in good amounts and lessen the amount of milk !
so good luck, and always keep your dr posted about these things, its always good to do that.
Regards

U can strt whole milk as Nandana is 1yr old. Moreover whole milk tastes soo yummy when u mix with cereal, roti or whatever.

Trisha, she takes 4oz wholemilk in the morning.. thats it. Apart from that she takes whole milk in form of cereal, roti soaked in whole milk, milk rice etc. Also im still breastfeeind her thrice a day.

So as her calcium intake is very less thru milk, i give her cheese, daily yogurt rice, yobaby, milk shakes etc etc.

I dont think adding formula to juice is good idea.

Hope this helps
Sheeja.

Dont add formula to juice.
I think now she can drink cows milk. also because she is older it is o.k if her milk content decreases if she is eating good amount of yogurt milk cheesse then not to worry too much. if she is eating well then dont worry either. try to introduce cows milk if dr gives you the go ahead and you can give cow milk with roti in it at night so she will get both

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
