Womens Issues:my 31/2 year old son in school
2006-09-11
Name: PRIYA

hi

my 31/2 yr. son ( April 2003 born) son has started school ( prestigious indian school) in april'06 in SHARJAH, UAE.

He had summer vacation for last 2 months and his school restarted in the first week of september.

from beginning ( before starting his school ) he is very good in saying rhymes , alphabets, weeks, colours, months etc., but he doesn't show much interest in writing. but he loves colouring. How can i encourage him to write the alphabets / numbers( he recognises the alphabets but doesnt like to write them ). i am getting comments from his teacher since last 2 to 3 days that he is very slow in writing.

One more thing is usually we speak our mother tongue ( tamil ) at home, so he is not much used to speak english, but he tries to understand it, since i am working i will keep him with maid ( who speaks only tamil ) so i cannot speak to him in english continously, how could i teach him speaking english. His class teacher is even complaining for not speaking english.

Some times i feel how could teachers expect such a small kids to speak different languages because whenever i go to meet her she will complain that he is very slow , not speaking english etc., etc.,.
At that time i will feel very bad that since i am going for work i could not able to spend much time with him. thats why he could not speak english. even i decided to resign my job and spent time with him. but my collegues stopped me from doing that.

i discussed this matter with some of my collegues but everyone telling that nothing to worry children will learn everything slowly, but i didn't understand why the teacher is complaining like that.

After reaching home i will spent atleast 1hr with him for completing his homework, etc., and he will tell me everything what he did in the school. but i am not understanding why he is slow at school.

Kindly share with me the behaviour of your kids also. and advice me what should i do to develop interest to him in writing.

3.5 yrs old wanna to speak english??unlucky to have bad teacher..if we already teach english n teach to wrtie at home b4 schooling why do we send them to school??hmm ignore thier complaints..dunt tell ur child that his teachers complained..instead try to find time n sit wid him n write along with him appreciate him with words\";waare my boy iz gonna get 5 starts tomorrow frm ur teacher\";.\";how beautiful iz ur handwriting\";like that...dunt make him to write his home work alone..he will learn english by his own..or u can allow him to watch kids english movies for 30 min daily..do not worry at all..i can feel ur pain ..we moms will feel depressed to hear someone complaining our babies.but ignore..or u can speak to his principal..cuz most of the school principalsare kind n understands our feelings..so they may ask the teachers not to complain for these sillly things cuz my sil once done thiz when they complained their daughetr at school..some babies cant wrtie properly untill 5 or 6 yrs or even more bcuz they will get pain in their hands..give him a gels ort of toy.(i dunt know what it iz).his hands will get sterghthened if he plays with that gel sqeezing it..all the best

Hi dear,
dont worry - teachers lways say this. I have daughter - she is 5 years old, i will tell you how we decide this problem with writting. First try to have time for your son. You can play games - draw him a car or a truck and ask him in it to write a letters, and if he write it well - let him colour the truck, and put his picture on the wall - make him feel proud with what he done / you can think out many games like this/
About english - come on he is still 3 years old - what they want from him??
Dont worry about english - but try with games again. You can find many sites in internet with games for learning english - try them. But i really think that you should spend more time with him - he needs your attention and help and 1 hour per day is not enought.
Tell me if you like my suggestions about learning and tell me if they work with your son.
Keep in touch
Elena

hi elena
i read your reply to priya. you said 1 hr time is not enough. But pl understand it is very difficult for working women to get even that much of time in one day.
what will we do then.
pl don't feel bad. I am just trying to tell you our difficulties.
