Waiting to try:Archie...allergy, wheezing

Name: Wheezy

Hello Archie,

I would appreciate if you can address my concern. I had childhood asthma whose symptoms subsided by age 12. But from last year I am having some mild episodes of wheezing and tightness of chest/. I am positive it is due to dust allergy. I do not get it if I have cold or infection. I do not take daily meds for it but only albuterol when required.

I am going to TTC next year and would like to address the situation before I conceive. I already have 3 yr child and did not have any symptoms with her pregnancy. Infact my symptoms surfaced last year. Actually, I had a miscarriage in fourth month last year due to unexplained reasons. During the first month of that I had mild wheezing when I did some cleaning and I used albuterol. Doctors say that miscarriage was not connected to albuterol but something in placenta I am concerned.

I am in US. I am not very happy with solutions provided by my primary care doctor. I maintain a clean home. I would like to see specialist. Who can you recommended - allergist or pulmonologist? I am quite afraid that they will oversubscribe meds which might be harmful during conception and pregnancy.

Sorry for long message but can you please advise.

Wheezy,
your asthma seems to have returned in second pregnancy and was due to hormones, I am not 100% sure though.

I think the best bet of yours would be combined treatment of Pulmonologist and OB/GYN. Feel free to tell to Pulmonologist about you want to try to conceive so the medications would be prescribed accordingly and once you get pregnant talk to OB about what medication you are taking, it may be you will continue taking same medication or altered dose/substitute during pregnancy.

yes, low lying placenta is major concern in first few weeks and can lead to miscarriage.
