seema replied. my baby never sits at all. i dont know how to make him watch all that.
Anitha, how you keep ur lil one busy to watch tv.
Hetal, does she watch all that in one time. she sits that much ? tips please
Vidya replied. Since there has been so much talk about TV and videos for infants on this board, here is a recommedation from the american academy of pediatrics:
The first two years of life are especially important in the growth and development of your child's brain. During this time, children need good, positive interaction with other children and adults to develop good language and social skills. Learning to talk and play with others is far more important than watching television.
Until more research is done about the effects of TV on very young children, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) does not recommend television for children younger than two years of age. For older children, the AAP recommends no more than one to two hours per day of quality screen time.
Hetal replied. hi anitha, i dont know channel name but in one of our paid channel it keeps coming baby developmental program. think its the same, you are talking about.
i was planning for nirja, but she gets enough entertainment from morning to late noon on nickjr, with all blues clues, dora explorer, diego, backyardigans, and couple others from sprouts and noggins..she has learnt alot from it to my surprise.recognising things, colours, some words too.
i would feel confortable, if you can talk about it more like how do they teach and all,do they have ne music and stuffs,,wats in there,,
i would like to try, if you could please, tell more about it.
lv to laya.

Sudha, what you said is true. we need tv to make our kids busy. i cannot afford nishu to keep banging with my cans and tins in the kitchen.he sits hardly before tv. hetal i will try those channels,if nishu even take a glimpse of it for a while i am done with my kitchen.right now i have kept gate. hetal try gate, its helpful.

seema,
nirja doesnt see all this as a part of routine nor at one time. she sees it only when i m busy with cooking or cleaning. that too only in morning some 1 hour. i would not mind her sticking to tv and learning good things, if she is preventing further kitchen accidents. i have had enough, and thats the only thing now which is working if i have to make her sit without me.
also i dont make her sit there. i just onn it when nirja is about to finish her plays with toys and about to enter kitchen.the music on it so melody that she runs away towards living room.there she wont sit and watch constantly, but give a glance when some funny sounds/songs or music or some character dance comes,,
and for me, my best wishes to makers of backyadigans and old macdonald song, no matter how fussy she is, when i put these, she settles at peace.
she continues playing with her toys once a while glancing at tv..atleast for me, she sticks to living room :))
chal take care bye, gtg to college.

Thanks for putting note from AAP, upto large extend I agree with the fact that children at this age should spend time with others then watching TV, but at same time what will you do if you are living alone only with your kid and hubby. You leftout with no choice then put him/her in some schedule where you have time to do some other stuff like kitchen etc.
I would prefer if you and your family can afford time spending and playing with kids, do so but if not then also should not be such big issue as anyway this generation kids are going to use TV like anything.
Regards,
Sudha

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
