Due Date Club November 2003:Gaining back birth weight

Hi Gals,

Hope you all are doing well. I was wondering how long it took for your babies to gain back their birth weight. My baby had lost nearly 20% last week, so a nurse was monitoring her weight everyday. I had to substitute formula after each feed.

Avi, are you still giving formula. If yes, how much do you feed?

Love to all the babies,
Vindhya

Hi Vindhya,
If Niya is feeding regularly, she should gain back her weight eventually. Aditya gained his weight back in a week's time, but as I understand it, that's faster than average.
As Avi says, formula may help. AS long as she feeds round the clock and has the required no. of dirty diapers, you should'nt worry too much about it.
BTW, she is such a cutie!

Thanks, Priya.

In the beginning, I used to sleep off without feeding her. Sometimes, I used to let her sleep 4-6 hours continuously. Then came the reality check with her weight loss. I am now feeding her around the clock. She is doing better now.

Good to hear about baby Aditya. So good to see him grow. Thanks for sharing his one month picture.

Are you still on leave?

Hey Vindhya, babies usually need to gain back their birth weight within 2 weeks of their birth...that's what the doc told me...

I've been suplementing from the very beginning...Right now, my son drinks almost 2 and a half ounces of formula...
Since your daughter is younger, you might have to give her a bit less... try an ounce and see if she seems satisfied..if not add a little more..
At this age, both breast milk and formula combined, I think NIya kanthi should be able to have an ounce to an ounce and a half at each feeding...

Good luck and let me know how it goes...
Supplementing will surely help her gain the weight...so dont worry....she will back to her birth weight in no time...

Subject:  Three weeks

Hi Avi,

They said normally it takes two weeks, but since my baby had lost more than normal, I believe it will take atleast three weeks.

I am currently giving an ounce, just wondered whether it was sufficient or not. Feel better now after reading your message.

Diaper Service Provider,Bangalore
Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a Diaper Service Provider in Bangalore? They generally provide cloth diapers and replace them with a new set every 2-3 days.

Thanks in advance
