Due Date Club January 2006:Fibroid, worried - Archie, can you pls comment..

Dear Archie and my friends,

I had written long back about a firboid found during my first scanning even before I conceived. It was smaller in size - 20 x 24 mm. So once I conceived, my OB started me with duvadilan
1/2 - 0 - 1/2 a day for first 2 months. During next ultrasound it grew a little in size (I don't recall the exact size now). So I was prescribed 1-1-1 duvadilan daily. I have been having mild cramp pains now also at times, so she increased the duvadilan dose to 1-1-1-1 daily. But during the latest ultrasound which was on 26th July, she was surprised that the fibroid had grown beyond what she had expected..size - 30 x 38 mm. So am on 6 duvadilan daily now. I just started with my 16th week.

Though my OB said she has seen cases of 4 fibroids and delivering babies, I was so much shocked and worried that I could not concentrate on anything else for entire 24 hours. Now I am a little ok and hence this message.

Archie, pls can you advise anything in this regard. Is there anything I should do to reduce its growth. I am ready to do anything as I cannot afford to bear any loss this time. I have already developed a relation with my baby and I feel he responds back to me. Pls do share anything that I should do. My OB is on vacation for a month and my next appt is on 5th Sep 2005.

With Regards
Soumya

soumya,
there is nothing you can really do about this besides not worrying and taking good rest.

they are common and I have seen patients who have growing fibroids throughout pregnancy. They delivered healthy children.

One thing your OB would do is keep track of them by increased frequency of ultrasound in third trimester, if needed. As long as they do not harm fetus growth it's absolutely nothing to worry. True that this will add more discomforts than any other preggie without fibroids, especially in third trimester.

Hi Soumya,

I am not in a position to give u a medical advice but can share with u an experience which might calm u down a little. My mami had two fibroids almost the size of a tennis ball. She had two normal deliveries and the babies were healthy and weighed more than average. They are now 14 and 20 years of age. She had the fibroid laproscopically removed few months ago because her periods were painful. My friend's sister also has a 13 year old son and she is about to deliver her secong baby in September. She had multiple fibroid that weighed 2 Kg and the Doc says as long as the fibroids are on the outer wall or do not interfere with the growth of the baby there is nothing to worry about. I have already two cases which I have seen with my own eyes. Just avoid any anxiety and do the best you can. Hopefully everything will be just fine.

I hope you are in good hands and trust your Doc and just relax. However, if it becomes painful you must consult a speacialist. After you deliver your baby medications can be taken which helps in bringing down the size of the fibroid. I also have a friend who has undergone a treatment for a fibroid by taking injections and medicines because she could not get it removed as she is yet to have a child.

Just don't worry as these things have remedy. On the contrary getting overanxious may ffect your baby.

All the best
Shaily

Hi Soumya,
I don't have any knowledge on this and I think Archie would answer this query. In my first ultrasound they found one fibroid in uterus and a cyst in a ovary. My doctors said that there is nothing to worry and it is a common problem. Take more rest as you can it helps your body to heal some problems.
Goodluck.

Have any of you pierced your baby´ s ears?
Have any of you pierced your baby' s ears? Where did you get it done? Were you able to change the earrings after the piercing and put on indian ear rings? My pediatrician does not do it, and she suggested that i take tanvi to the mall. Pls share your experiences at the mall if you' ve had any.

Ear piercing
My daughter was 5 months old when we decided to get her ear pierced. The non medical ear piercing options are painful and unsafe with possibilities of hepatitis, viruses and even HIV and I can never recommend it. My husband and I were looking for a safe, modern, gun shot piercing option which is completely safe, pain-free and with a traditional touch as well.
