Medication Effect on Foetus:Progesterone

Hi,

I have been advised by my gynaec to take progesterone till 7th month of pregnancy. My last pregnancy ended in a missed abortion but we don't know for sure if it was due to hormonal deficiency or not. I am concerned since I read that taking progesterone beyond 12 weeks may affect the child's liver adversely. Any inputs from anyone ?

Thanks
Minka

I am on progesterone supposetories (which I put vaginally) till the 14th week of pregnancy. Im in US and some how felt the supposetory dose is very low and consulted docs in India and also taking a tab of Duphaston (a type of progesterone) everyday as per their advise

I dont know whether its Ok to continue till 7th month as after 3 months the placenta produces / should produce enough progesterone.

I did a lot of search in the net for overdose of progesterone (as Im taking so many things) and I found there is nothing called overdose of progesterone, ie its not harmful... but you can still disscuss with your doc. Atleast you can ask her to test your levels after 3rd month ( by blood test) and then see if they are low or high and decide accordingly.

Good Luck

I am sooo relieved to see the above mail. I am on progesterone which I am taking vaginally and the doc has advised me to take till 13th week.

I have always been worried whether I was doing something my taking this medicine. I was also feeling guilty about the medical state, why was all this medicine required ?. The doc had assured me that progesterone doesn´ t cause any harm, but still I was worried.

I am just feeling better to see there are people in this world like me :)

Thanks
Kalpana
