Hi,

Its really nice to see this board active n with updates. all babies are really progressing well..

With laya she is doing good as of now..From the time we came back from INdia in May she had ear infection twice , cold cough.. the second time when she had got the ear infection it bcame severe n was with severe cold cough n had turned to wheezing n landed her to emergency room . n she was given nebulizer treatment for 2 days..and now after 2 weeks she is back n picking up well. ammo those ear infections cold cough made her so weak didnt eat anything n was only on breast milk made her cry like anything. it really hurt me to see baby in pain...

and as far as her milestones she strted crawling in her start of 10 th month. in india she used to come on all 4 legs but kept slipping as it was marble flooring. once we reached US she got the grip bcos of carpet n strted crawling n then standing n then walking holding sofa ..so now she is crawling jet fast, standing without any support walks one step on her own n falls down and climbs stairs..i hvent given walker to her till now..SO the question is now SHOULD I INTRODUCE WALKER OR THE BANDWAGON SO SHE CAN START WALKING ON HER OWN>>??
Regarding teething no signs of it so far. ANd she talks i mean babbles so much..mamma dadda naana, baba...and shouts like anything..and is getting pampered a lot..she also does this kind of crying to get things done..but once distracted she forgets abt it..

Next coming to food..

Am giving laya daily rice with moong dal with some veggies in it...So far i hve given her potatoes, carrot, onion, beans spinach. WHAT OTHER VEGETABLES IS SAFE TO BE INTRODUCED ?
With fruits daily she takes an apple n half pear i steam it and add it in rice when feeding and somedays apricots bananas.. WHAT OTHER FRUITS CAN BE GIVEN?

I Havent introduced curd/yoghurt to LAya.. CAN HOMEMADE CURD / YOGHURT GIVEN? she is allergic to milk but doesnt hvae any allergies when ghee is given..

Now Sleeping.. She sleeps well through the night waking once or twice for water/milk and sleeps off. the problem is putting her to sleep. she is so used to my rocking n she wont sleep if her dad puts her to sleep. somedays it takes me 5 mts, 10mts, 15 mts n even an hr to put her to sleep..PLS GIVE ME TIPS FOR MAKING HER SLEEP ON HER OWN>?

I know my post is going too long...but thats it for now...

Waiting for ur replies..

LOVE, KISSES , n hugs to all the babies of this board..

ANitha

i know anitha, its hard to c babies seeing in pain. but now she is pickin her health up, just take care. be careful when goin in windy and such climatic conditions, as she already had earinfections and colds. means she might be sensitive but also, the causes might be different all the time !

here is wat i read on babycenter dot come about walkers, m just pasting it for you :
You can encourage your baby to walk by standing or kneeling in front of him and holding out your hands. Or you might hold both his hands and walk him toward you. He'll probably also enjoy a toddle truck or push toy that he can hold on to as he walks. (Look for toddle toys that are stable and have a wide base of support.)

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) strongly discourages using baby-walkers. Because they make it so easy for your child to get around, walkers can prevent his upper leg muscles from developing correctly..

so you might want to consider that ! jst to be cautious,,personally, i am not going use walker for nirja, though i strongly want to buy that..

now about food :
i give nirja - potatoes, sweetpotatoes, yam, greenbeans, yellow squash, zuchini, carrots, spinach, tomato (no seeds, cooked to soup and sweetish in taste),sweetcorn, avacado, brocolli, cauliflower..everything with combinations of dal, cracket wheat, rice, barley (whole), whole millet, whole sprouted moong..
except for brinjal, okra, greenchillies,mushrooms.... as these contain high amounts of unwanted minerals.
i will give all vegeis on the counter.
about fruits, i give nirja so far, apples, bananas, pear, peaches, cheeries, strawberries, blackberries, mango, pineapple ( with banana ), orange..
about sour and citrus fruits, i give with banana, as she is not good with sour fruits, at the same time, she is fine with bananas !!!! so you might want to try some combinations, sometimes babies digest the food they arent good to, in different forms !

about homemade yogurt,i started with yobaby, just 1 pack and then it was becoming horrible for me remember its expiry dates and going and picking now and then from grocery store. for me i a one time buyer in 15 days for gorceries,,,,,,so i started her with whole milk vit d, homemade curd ! just a small bowl is more than enough for her. also, i dont give her curd, i make it like lassi with some banana and then give her fresh !
i avoid giving her citruses, sour foods, foods with strong flavour in the evenings. evenings is often, dal, rice, with some vegies, or some tofu with vegies,,
i tried putting some vanilla drops in yogurt, she liked it but not the way she liked banana with yogurt.so you can do it acc to wat suits laya.
if my baby is allergic to milk, i would ask my dr before introducing milk. if ghee isnt the problem, then in future there is a possibility that she might lose her sensitivity/allegy to milk ,,because ghee is nothing but a by product of milk..or prob 2% milk might be good for her,,,ask your dr.

now about making her sleep on her own..
at first try talking to her and pamper her on her head, give a light massage on legs, and thighs..at the same sleeping to her and talking to her..
sometimes babies dont sleep cz now that they have become active and get tired, they often feel sleepless,cz of tiredness..or may be that you are trying to make her sleep early...dont spend more than 15 min to make her sleep,,if she really wants to sleep, she will not cost you for more than 5 mins...
about sleeping,,this is nirja schedule,,day 1, if she wakes up at 630 morning, she will have busy day so sleeps at 830 night...
sometimes she wakes up at 830-930, that day she sleeps at 1030,,also i remmeber,,sometimes she takes her naughtiness to 12 !! but then she sleeps like a sheep. in minutes.
slowly reduce the rocking time, talk to her, blabber the way she does, give her eye contact just once and then look at her chin or chest level,,at the same time talking to her,,,,,she will love it...sing a good song,,she will like it..
nirja loves to hear o macdonald had a farm and dhun of hare krishna, hare ramma...
this will take a while...babies learn to sleep on their own around 1 year and onwards,,dpending on how we make them sleep.,we have to wait..

sometimes nirja doesnt sleep in her room,,she wants to sleep with me,,,i encourage that,,but whenever i get chance, at her deep sleep, i keep her in crib with a little patting for a minute or so,..and she is fine...

try these c if it works.
hugs to laya..
wat does laya means, sounds really beautiful..

hope this was helpful.

Hi Anitha,

welcome back. As far as veggies are concerned, I give her anything and everything. E.g. I mix carrots, broccoli, spinach, greenbeans, tomatoes, etc in her khichdi.

Fruits, I give her boiled apple, or fresh pineapple, pear, watermelon, kiwi, papaya, cantaloupe, actually anything. I don't think there is anything specific that you can't give the baby. If there is, then i am not aware of it.

I give her yoghurt everyday. Dannon or homemade, watever is available.

As for sleeping, I get in bed with her, switch off the lights, and she mite hve something in hand to play. She'll keep playing for some time and then fall asleep. Though this doesn't work all days. Sometimes, I have to pat her to sleep. She doesn't sleep with her father. Even I don't know wat to do abt that. I guess she will eventually grow out of it, don't know.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Sheetal

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

HI Gayathri,

I used the puzzles, the wooden blocks for alphabets and numbers.... - Sheetal [View Message]
try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
all the best... - Manju [View Message]
