Due Date Club December 2005:What to do if baby is not taking Formula-1

Hi All,

I'm posting after very long time. I'm working mom and i joined office 2 weeks back. She is now 3 months and 2 weeks old. I tried giving Formula-1 from 8 weeks, but she is not drinking with the bottle. Somehow managed till i was at home. Now, she sucks the nipple and drinks 30ml when she is really hungry and after that, she is not drinking. So, most of the time, she is half hungry and because of this she is cranky always. Becoming very difficult to manage. During Saturday and Sundays also, my milk is not sufficient for her as mine is reducing. Any suggestions please. Is it ok to start giving biscuit (with water) or cerelac? We tried giving the milk with spoon also... doesnt help. Am very worried.

Hi,

I'm trying all possibilities. Today, my mom tried by adding little sugar. She drank for the first time and she dint drank for the second time. Let me try all possibilities. Where will you get Gerber Nuke nipples in bangalore? Probably, i can try that.

Thanks all for ur suggestions.

Hi Nivetha,

My suggestation to you is that you can use Gerber Nuke nipples. They are made in both silicon(clear) and rubber(brown). They look very much like a mother's nipple. If you select rubber (brown), it might even trick your daughter in thinking as if you are feeding her. You can also cuddle her and try feeding on side as if you are breast feeding. Give it a try and see if it works. Or try giving solids after talking to her PED. Don't Nivetha everything will work for you.
My son will be 4 months this month end. I started expressing milk from day one and use to give him epressed milk by bottle at least once a day. He was very fussy about the bottle in the beginning. Used to cry a lot and push the bottle but after 3 to 4 days got used to it. Right now I am breast fedding him exclusively and am planning to do at least for another 2 months. Let's see.
take care,
Reshma

I am from Nov board and my baby is 4 months old. I too started giving her bottle from 2 months as I am working and she refused to take formula till about 3 months of age. Only very recently she has begun to take formula without much fuss. These are somethings my mom tries to make her drink..
1. Give her bottle when she is half asleep..and before she is too hungry. If she is very hungry probably she wouldn't like the bottle, mine would just cry and push off the bottle.
2. My mom rattles the rattle, it is a huge commotion :) but the trick works. She gets distracted with the noise and sucks on the nipple :)
Hope these techniques help. All the best. luv to your little one.
dsk.

Nivetha,
have u tried giving your milk in the bottle? Probably she'll drink that and once she gets adjusted to the bottle, you can give her formula?
I haven't started solids yet. planning to do so after asking the doctor on her 4 month checkup today. I express milk and she takes formula one time a day, it was difficult at first, but now she does drink from the bottle, but it takes my mom almost an hour to make her drink 3 oz fom the bottle. Check with your pediatrician if you can start giving her solid food. He will be able to give you the correct advice. Don't worry..once she gets the feel of the bottle it won't be that bad..just give her some time! All the best.
luv,
dsk.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
