Due Date Club December 2005:Ques on breast feeding timing...

Hi gals, i had my baby a week ago. She is doing fine with breast feeding during the day... night time she gets cranky when the flow doesnt happen rapidly. Just yesterday she slept for 2 hours continuous and then back to feed and then back to 1 hr sleep pattern.

I read bhavnas post saying her baby sleeps continuous for 4 hrs in the night... did you put in any efforts for her to get this pattern.. or is this normal with 1 mth old babies?? I am just worried as i feel night time she doesnt get too much milk. Did you gals also face the same situation with your newborns??

pls comment. thanks.

Hi RV,
I know how u feel...My Dia is now 7 weeks old but I too had a tough time to get her to sleep in the beginning... She would wake up every 2 hrs or keep sucking for hours...It was really tough on me..especially as I had had C-section..Something that helps me is using a breastpump...I use the avent Isis..It is a lifesaver.. I pump milk in the daytime and store it in the fridge...At night before she goes to sleep I feed her 4-5 ounces of milk...She sleeps for 4- 5 hrs through the night... This has really worked for me and we both get to sleep...I feel that the baby sleeps really well once her stomach is full...Let me know if this helps and if u have any questions..
Take care...
Poulomi

hi! RV
what ur facing is normal..she is still settling down and ur milk supply is getting established..in fact at this stage docs recommend to wake the baby every 2 hrs if they don't wake on their own...untl the baby is 2 weeks old...eventually she will sleep more and u will too!
my baby is 2 months old and this pattern only started only abt 2weks ago...before that i was waking every 2-3 hrs to feed her and since she doesn't sleep much in the day..she feeds every 2 hrs and sometimes even less.
so wait and relax..stress affects milk supply too...!
take care and good luck!

thank u so much. feel relaxed after reading ur comment. yesterday for a change my baby slept for 3hours continuous in the night and then woke up for feed and again she slept off.

sometimes i wonder whether what i am doing is right.. meaning with the breastfeeding part. have a check up with her pediatrician on 13th..hope by then she has put on some weight which might make me feel much better.

thanks and good luck to you too.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

hi
So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
