Hi Girls ,
Can anyone explain to me ... what is the difference between receiving blanket and a normal baby blanket . Really confused some labels just say baby blankets .
Also have any of you bought pacifiers for the baby ? In India they are not encouraged but what is the opinion in US ?
Thanks
Ritu

My idea after talking to friends&dr's is that pacifier helps baby suck well similar to breastfeeding. No harm in using one but in limit. It is useful to quieten baby esp when we r out with him.No known harm if used in moderation so go ahead &keep one atleast ready for emergencies.
Recieving&baby blanket as Uma poited out is right.Recieving is smaller&ideal for swaddling&can be used to cover &any multipurpose use until baby grows. For bigger babies&all our winter babies buy 1 good blanket for overall wrapping.

Subject:  Pacifier??

I read an article that debated on the use of a pacifier versus that of sucking a thumb. Most babies will do one of these. It said that babies using a pacifier leave it after a few months or may be after they are a year old but the thumb-sucking habit could last a very long time (upto 4-5 yrs) which is not good. It also said that thumb-sucking makes the babies teeth grow outward whereas there is no such problem with the pacifier.

I was very much against the use of pacifier but after reading this article I have bought one just in case my baby gets inconsolable and I dont want her to suck her thumb!!

Hope this helps.

Hi Ritu,

As far as my knowledge receiving blankets are very thin and not that warm and also very small in size and its used when someone wants to hold ur baby so u just place it underneath ur baby, whereas normal baby blanket is suppose to be really warm and also little thick and one of its utility is suppose ur taking ur baby out so u can cover ur baby in that from ur home to the car instead of a bunting suit.Hope i have not confused u,also lets see wht others have to say.And regarding pacifier i brought two right now as it was mentioned in the hospital bag lists, also one of my frnd she advised me as her younger son uses pacifier, and moreover it depends from every baby whether they like pacifier or not.But yes in US i have seen most of the babies with pacifier.
Hope ur confusion is clear to some extent, rest wait for others to reply.

Take care,
Uma
