Hi E1,

I have been a constant reader of this board full of good suggestions.I am ready to go back to work n looking for child care for my 10 month old.I would appreciate your comments or ideas on what to watch for when looking for a child care...or any of your experiences while finding the same if you already have your kids in care.

Hi Gauri,
I personally think that day care is better than personal care at home as in day care children have company to play with and they are in professional hands where as in personal care we are not sure how they are treating children. i have heard and seen home videos of personal care givers beting and missusing children. i think something like this can only seldom happen a day care as mostly there are more than one person taking care of children.
Bu all these things depend on how good the day care is and how many children are there in the day care and the experiance of the care takers.
If you have a family member or close friend whome you can trust to take care of your baby, it will be a good idea to think about. if you are opting for day care, ask other mothers who are sending their children to day care for the best day care in your area.

Good luck
Angel

Amita like you said it is your opinion every one is free to have an opinion here...i think that insulting ppls ways to take care of a child is not the way to go. I also have a very secure and good position ... money is no problem for me when it comes to child care.
I think this is purely gauri 's decision whatever way she wants to go. The lady that come to me is not just sitting she is working and earning her daily money by doing a job what we are doing too. Anyways i dont want to waste my time arguing here

I am glad that daycare worked out for you but i have many mothers that i habve met wherethey took thier child to daycare and the children have time and time again become sick . when child is sick working mothers have to take days off for child which is natural but if it is frequent then it is very hard. It is true that the more you spend the better attention if you spend alot in daycare then true you will get better service but if you cannot trust someone in your home how can you trist someone outside whether one person or 2 this is something that a working mother has to trust upon instinct.
It is a choice which the mother can only take.
Having a nanny come home has worked out very well for me and is something alot of mothers are doing as child gets one to one attention also my son has bonded very well with the care giver. I dont mind her watch tv or even eating in my house this is something we mothers have to let go. I know she does an excellent job at times maybe better then me. i am content with this way. I know my son gets the love and attention he needs he has so far not been sick and he is very happy.
I know that if you get sick your immune systen gets better but ia child this age to get sick is not good as it can lead to the ER.Also it is not very good to dose a child with medication time and time again.
I personally feel a child is ready at may be 2.5-3 years.
Priya
Gauri which ever way you fell comfortablye you can choose it depends on alot of factors please see the daycare how it is and if you feel that this is the route you want to take.

Priya,

Like I said..it is my opinion and my expereince....
I rather have two or more adults supervising than a single person..coz when that person is having a bad day..there is no one to take burden off if they are the only one with your child. And i just feel you never know how that person will react if the child is also having a bad day the very same day.
I am at a very secure and good position in my company so taking time off is not an issue for me. I have very flexible time schedule.

And also I don't need a maid to come and cook for us. I just need my son to have some play time with other kids of his age group rather than some old indian lady sitting with my son all day long. Again my PERSONAL OPINION
at day care that person will call in sick..I don't want mt son to b

Hi Gauri,
My son started to go to day care when he turned 10 months old, Before that he stayed home with me and then my MIL.
Personally, In my opinion day care set up works much better than someone (one person) taking care of the baby..
Surely in the begining baby will fall sick but they immune gets use to it. if they don't get sick now they get very sick when they start preschool.
Also I just couldn't bring myself to trust and hand my baby to one person to watch my baby all day(where she could be total incharge with no other supervision as in my day care there are always two adults supervising kids. and in top of that with TV in the house. I don't want my son to watch TV.
Though I pay much more(as my son goes to one of best day care in our area) then it would have cost me someone coming to our house or dropping my son at someone's house. But I am ok with that as it gives me peace of mind and my son's social personality has changed drastically in last five months.
Just my experience..
Take care

I personally feel that it is better to keep a child at home until he/she is atleast 3years old. Reason being is that at day care children get sick frequently. If you can afford it i would recommend home child care where you can hire a lady to come to your home and watch the baby. If you are in us there are alot of ladies willing to do this type of work and it is much healthier for your baby.If you are thinking about daycare then i think you should see how clean the day care is how many children are there and how many ppl are delegated to the kids.Make sure care givers are atleast older then 25 at day care and teenagers;
If you opt for home care then look for lady around 50 years old nice and loving towards baby..this porcess takes time. I have someone coming to watch my boy while i come to work she also makes dinner for us .

Breast pumps
I am using a medela pump to feed my baby when I am out. The medela breast pumps are really a good choice for the working moms. We can pump the milk regularly and can store it and use whenever needed.... - dalewhither [View Message]
evenflo elan breast pump
Buy this pump! It’s made my life so much easier. I always got sore with my old Medela Advanced, but that never happens with the Ameda Purely Yours Breast Pump. What really makes a difference is its ease of use. It’s really easy to switch between pumping phases and take apart to clean. Strongly recommend it for all mothers that pump daily.... - stellatylor [View Message]

try this
As we discussed earlier in this forum I used magnetic alphabets , through which he has learnt alphabets within a week. And number within 4 days.
It is as like take the letter and stick to it where ever he goes more and ask him to search a particular letter. this worked very well for me.
