Due Date Club December 2005:Hi archie few more quests

Hi archie,
How r u doing ? Thanks for the support you are giving to all of us which helped a lot from start to finish.
As you know I delivered a baby boy and named him Siddharth. He is fine. I'm concerned abt his feeding. I'm still getting only collastrem till now and I don't know whether its sufficient or not. He 's sometimes taking 30min and sleeps for 2h and sometimes he wakes up every 30-60min.
Today we went to Newborn club where they check his weight again and they said he reduced his weight and now he is 5lb9ozs. They said my breasts are still soft so no milk yet. My mother is telling its normal at first week and then slowly they gain wt after the milk is formed and it 'll take time for some people 4-5 days after delivery for the milk to form. He is fine in the mornings and becomes fussy at night time.
Can you help me what to do to increase milk .
I think my quests r not complete because he 's calling . I'll mail you agn.
Thank you
susmitha

Susmitha,
baby loosing weight after child birth is common, as long as it's a few ounzes.
you get colostrum is a good sign. you will get good milk supply. I was wondered like you are today. It improved in less than a week and was good enough for my son. Follow your mothers advise don't get dishearted.

read my labor story on July 2004 board and you will find many responses, response by Madhu, Aarti and others did make difference to improve milk supply. I would not remember all, you will have to visit July 2004 and go through long labor story of mine with responses to know more.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
