Due Date Club December 2005:Cerviprime Gel-archie

Hi Archie,

We went in for a color dopler yesterday and the doc has confirmed that everything is fine and the weight of the baby is 3.2 kg. Our doc says that the term of pregnancy is through and my wife would be delivering any time now. But her cervix has not yet softened (as much as it has to) , so today after dinner we are to go to the hospital and she said she would apply Cerviprime Gel and keep my wife under observation , as per her my wife would start with her contractions withing 2-3 hours. I just want to know how safe is this gel , my wifes Edd was 21st ,should we wait for a week or is it ok to go with the gel.

regards
staney

Staney,
Cerviprime gel is source of prostaglandin. This is supposed to efface (thin) cervix. It's must for cervix dilation. It's also possible that while on prostaglandin gel or suppository she might get contractions anytime from the time of application till 12 hours. When she gets nice contractions she might be observed to see if her body continue to progress contractions and cervix dilation. In case she gets contractions with gel but stops after 12 hours and mild progress with cervix dilation then she might be offered Pitocin.
To make long story short, your wife is being induced or taken steps towards induction.
Yes, it's safe to get this done. To wait or not is choice between Ob and you two. Some OB wait for as long as 14 days while some induce right on the day of edd.

Very good doctor
Hi,

I delived a baby boy in March 2009. I consulted Dr.Chitra Ramamurthy during my pregnancy cycle. She' s one of the best doctors in Bangalore. Not many people know about her. She handled the entire process in a very professional manner. I used to visit her clinic in Jayanagar 3rd block. She is very caring and affable. She says what to do and what not to do. ... - Sandhya Rao [View Message]

So long as your baby is feeding, that' s all that really matters. These days, formulas are packed with everything the baby needs, and although it is never as good as breast milk, it' s perfectly fine. It sounds like maybe what you are missing is the bonding that breast feeding provides? My first child had both breast and bottle milk for the first 6 months, when I had a mis... - Jhumri [View Message]
