My son is 3yrs and one month old.He went to a nearby Shemrock and in the beginning he just couldn't settle down when he was 2yrs 7mths.he subsequently fell ill for around a month and half with bronchital problems and pnuemonia and when i returned back, the principal was very rude to me.Not just for the fees part but she said lousy things abt me and my kid as i just shared some personal problems i had been facing in my personal life at the time of admission so she could take good care of my kid.She said my kids doesn't even know alphabets properly and i am a chronic case of depression and stuff. She made me all the more depressed. My son accompanied me and was in tears.
Now my problem is,should i send my son to the same school again,as there are no good play schools in the area, and secondly though he has learned a lot of stuff at home and am keen to send him somewhere else, should i really give so much concern to academics at this stage as she has made me very self conscious and i find it really tough to get out of this.
Moreover with the schools admissions going on in Delhi my son is not eligible for nursery or LKG by one month,as he is november born,so i am scared now to send him anywhere,
Simply suggest something,i am damn worried abt him because to me he appears a very intelligent child like most kids and he gets very bored at times at home and i have also become very anxious after the incident and he suffers because of this.
Can naybody just suggest me something.

Anwar replied. Hi Shreshtha,
Please dont get worried or depressed by all these happenings. Dont think that Shemrock is the only playschool in your area. Please checkout some other schools in nearby area. At any cost, please dont send your kid to Shemrock. But make sure that he is going to a decent playschool.

Anu replied. Hi Shrestha, First - dont lose your heart - be strong - your kid will learn a lot by observing you - so you need to be strong and confident if you want him to imbibe these qualities. Like Tony has suggested - involve him constructive actvities - be it in kitchen or through activity toys or through nursery rhyme cassetts and CD's.Another activity that me and my kid really find entertaining are enacting storys and rhymes through the use of hand muppets. you can teach a lot of social mannersims through that.
Though you can & should teach a lot of things yourself but still do send him to a play home. The school need not have a big and reputed name but look for something that has less children so your child can get the required attention. So if you dont like Shemrock - send him to another play school or montessori home for children. But dont make the mistake of keeping him at home as a child needs to learn to interact with other kids and more important your child can get bored being whole day at home. Every child has different levels of sensitivity - so go for a school that will go with your child's level of sensitivity - it need not be very reputed and jhingy bangy types.
Take care and be strong and be positive :-)
Tony S replied. Dear Shrestha,
First of all please do not share your personal problems with anybody whom u dont know well, esp. the school principal or teachers. Maintain a warm but professional relationship with them. Also your son is good, u know it and u can teach him many things at home itself, esp. if u r not working then u can spend a lot of time doing fuin hings like drawing, colouring, watching good CDs., playing games, in the park. He can also help u with 'fun' things in the kitchen - like keeping vessels in order, sorting veggies - so in the process u can teach him differemt vegetables, names, colours, etc.
Since the principal has not been good to u, dont ever show her your face again. If u have been hurt by her she does not deserve to have your son in her school. Imagine of u go there again, she will feel u have no self-respect - & u r also teaching your son the same thing !!! - i.e. not to have self-respect. Check out there must be some other school/playschool/activity centre nearby. Try to forget the incident, whatever it was as a bad dream and enjoy life and teach your beautiful son the same so he will grow up to be a mature, sensitive and confident adult. This might be a personal question but looks like u r a single mother. If so, please d o not lose heart. Muster up courage and be a go-getter and forget about that rude principal.
